Spot of the day!

Recommended Posts

Haven't been far today, just bumbling around Banbury, but spotted a couple of Morris Minors, one a split screen with late style high mounted lights.

Also sadly, a semi-abandoned Midget, mouldering in someone's front garden.

A Turd Brown  B.L. Allegro on the B 1040 this afternoon, thought they were all in the scrap heap in the sky. Horrible colour.

Suited the car well I always thought !! :D

Opposite ends of the cool camper scale today in Banbury.

A very nice split screen VW type 2 bus, resplendent in red and white, with a natty chrome and wood roof rack, and then a Bedford CF camper in white a few minutes later!

Started off early this morning with an Opel Manta "A" in a dark bronze colour and a Rover SD1 Vitesse on the A6 northbound between Leicester and Loughborough.

Then a variety of classics on the Nottingham Classic during their halfway halt at Woodhall Spa this lunchtime.

From the sublime to the ridiculous today on the way home.

A tidy dark blue Jaguar Mk II on the M25.

Then on the M40, on a trailer, a Heinkel bubble car.

Despite the appalling weather the M25 and M40 served up a host of classics this evening:

  • Escort Mk1 RS2000
  • Austin 7
  • Morris Oxford Farina
  • Triumph Stag
  • Early 911
  • Jag Mk10
  • Hillman Imp

Oh, and a McLaren MP4.

Just a few choice spots today:

  • Pale yellow MGBGT
  • Lancia Flamina
  • Bright orange bay window VW bus, just like the matchbox one I had as a kid.
  • N reg Mini with a totally Matt paint job, and not on purpose

I took my V70 in for it's MOT today, and speaking to the garage owner, who I have known for longer than I have been driving. He, like me, just turned 65 and bought himself a retirement gift. A Bentley Continental Convertible W12. OK, its not new. Bentley schedule these cars for a MAJOR service at 10 years old, and the vendor had this car serviced prior to sale. Opening the lid, there is a cover saying Bentley, and plumbing from the twin turbos to the inlet manifolds. Nothing else is visible. Apparently, to service the engine, it needs to be removed!

Cost of service:

Remove/refit engine        £ 4000.00

Service components         £ 4000.00

Rest of service                 £ 2000.00

Total                              £10,000.00.

No, I'm not going to buy one.

Driving back down the A1 this afternoon and the Morris 1000 traveler

two cars distant looked slightly odd. Closer inspection (and a small note

in the rear window) revealed it to be a Morris Oxford (MO series).

Now whether this was called a Station wagon or traveler I don't know.

It left the A1 at the A52 junction and then took a side road.

Earlier on the A1 in the Northbound lanes I saw a red Maserati on a trailer.

It sported racing stickers and was a Bora or Mistral?

That would be a Traveller, and a VERY rare beast.

This must be something to do with the camshaft drive chains , which are at the back of the engine & will therefore require removal of the engine to allow them to be worked on .  Anything else should be able to be done in situ , since there's a reasonable amount of space round the engine once the various covers , & probably the airfilter housings, are removed . Furthermore , if you remove the front bumper & the FEM (front-end module - the front panel & the various radiators assembled onto it ) the whole of the front of the engine is exposed .

Spotted this as I was taking a walk in the woods with my dog:

flyscot.jpg

Had a bit of warning it was on the way from the two chaps with cameras where my footpath crossed the tracks, and managed to find a good vantage point right next to the bridge over the Aire...

best,

M.

Out for about an hour in the car today and saw some stuff. If they had wings and props I could give you names but it will have to be dashcam photos.

Nice little sporty number:

I know this ones a Ferrari, but only because it was red and had more prancing horses than Ascot:

A lump of purple unpleasantness (Lambo?):

An ostentatious pile of pricey tin (Bentley ?):

Finishing off with a couple of nice Jaaaarrgs:

Some Coventarians seem to have plenty of money to splash on wheels.
