1/32 Hasegawa Fw-190 D-11 "Red 4" JV 44 update 23-8-2016

Recommended Posts

OK Guys,

After some correspondence (and acceptance) with dazdot I am going to start this model. It will not go into the voting, because it is more than 25% done before it starts.
It is a shelf queen and was restarted with the start of this GB. I started this build in a different model site (Large Scale Modeller) and lost interest/time with it until last week when I was searching for a resin seat and found it in this box.
It is a 1/32 Hasegawa Fw-190 D9 with a conversion set from Renaissance and a MDC cockpit set. There are some more goodies in the box, but I am not sure if I will need it.

Here are some pictures from before the restart.

The box.

the Renaissance conversion set. This is original for a D-13 conversion, but there is not much difference between the D-11 and D-13 nose.

And the decals will be from Eaglecal. This is the scheme I will be building.

And here are some pictures of the build then.

The new nose on. This was the text used on the other build " I have sawn of the nose and replaced it with the one from the conversion set. The brake was on a panelline and very easy to do with a fine saw. Then came the trouble. because the brake line is on the edge of the firewall, you can't use some plastic plate to strengthen it. Now it's secured with only some super glue. When I will put the fuselage together I will see how to strengten this."

Here is a picture of the painted insert for the engine. This gave the nose more strength.

Here is a picture of test fitting the rest of the nose parts.

And here is the cockpit of MDC. That is a nice piece of resin.

Now it was on to the wings and these are different than a D-9. Here is what I said in the other build. "I have made the gun holes in the wings for the MK-108 canons. The ones in the A-8 kit are to small for the fitting of the masters MK-108 gun barrels. So I had to improvise with some plastic tubing."

This was the last done before it became a shelf queen.

And now the update of what has been done last week.

That was mainly the cockpit painting and doing the decals for the instrument panel.

Here are some pictures.

That is a lovely set from MDC.

After this was done was the tub placed in the fuselage. The next job that needs to be done is cleaning up the seams. After witch it is time to mate the wings with the fuselage. I hope to do that this week.

There is still loads of work to do before it gets to the painting stage.

Cheers,

Now that's a nice start.

I have used the MDC kit in my D9 build a few years ago and have a couple more stashed away that I got when MDC ceased trading briefly last year. I have a plan to do one of the JV44 birds in 1/32 and all five of them in 1/48 via Eduard kits.

The resin conversion looks good and I am glad to see this back on the table.

Regards,

Looking good so far. The Fw 190 cockpit always seems to me to be the epitome on Teutonic design with it's uncluttered and functional appearance.

I recall seeing a photograph in one of the JV 44 books showing a group of pilots standing in front of a wing, and the white stripes look like they were added with some sort of tape over the red background, just a thought.

I have seen that picture to. The strippes were hard edge. I will not use tape, but I will spray them on.

But that is all for later. I first need to get it to the painting stage.

Hi Guys,

after painting the A5 this morning, have I been Buzzy with this one. I have cleaned up the seams from the fuselage (read tail) and the wings.

I have also mated the wing to the fuselage. This needs to dry, so that I can do some more work tomorrow.

No pictures jet. Hope to make some tomorrow.

Hi Guys, A small update.

Here are two pictures from how the model is now.

O, the gray dot of paint on the resin wheel well part is where the ejection shute is for the engine gun on the D13. But as the D11 doesn't have one, was it time to fill it. The paint is there to check if it was done correctly.

That is it for now.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have done some work on her today. Though nothing worth to take a picture. I think that the first pictures will come when she is ready for some paint.

The stabilisors are fitted and the flaps are placed in the closed position. I hope to do some more work next week, so she can be painted.

Gee Arnold, I seemed to have missed this build of yours altogether!!

I like very much, just how nice are those MDC resin bits, they have to be one of my favourite AM suppliers!!

I should have just used their AM kit on my 109D instead of that horrible FM resin/PE AM kit!!!

She's looking great well done.

I think I will not make it to finish this one before the end of the GB. It is near the painting stage, but I don't have enough time the next few weeks to do it.:weep:

I am also bussy with my What if project for Telford. It Will be a conversion of a Dragon Horten Wing.

Sorry guys.

Hmmmm??? that sounds interesting!! All my Whiff's have stalled for the moment, just not enough time. Once the MTO GB and Mustang II (doing an OOB build for that) GB's are over I'm hoping to get some more done on at least one.

If it's not going into the voting anyway, it doesn't matter when you finish so just carry on please.

John

Thank you John. I will try to do some more work on her in a few weeks. I hope it doesn't go onto the shelf of shame for the second time.

Ehhhhh, I think this will take some time longer than a few weeks to go on.

I just noticed that the P-51 Mustang STGB wil start in a very short time. And I have commited me to this as well. So that hase some priority.

I think I will put this one later this year in the KUTA GB.
