Panzer Vor!!!
If the Chieftain had gone into service with the army of Israel What would it have looked like ?? Any ideas ?? Any what if pics??
4scourge7
Probable that the Chieftain would start out as the Centurion did in IDF service. Sinai Gray colour with Israeli tactical marks before Israeli modifications changed it`s appearance. Only pic I can find of the vehicles sent to Israel is this one. https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=6LHvCwAAQBAJ&pg=PT24&lpg=PT24&dq=israel+tank+museum+chieftain&source=bl&ots=ljCSLawJX0&sig=neW6lG5U5XQPz1ltJ8IA9mvhPWM&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjZpLSc-arOAhVmGsAKHdf6BGwQ6AEIPDAE#v=onepage&q=israel%20tank%20museum%20chieftain&f=false From wiki `Britain and Israel had collaborated on the development in its latter stages[11] with a view to Israel purchasing and domestically producing the vehicle. Two prototypes were delivered as part of a four-year trial.[12] However, it was eventually decided not to sell the marque to the Israelis,[13] which prompted them to follow their own development programme`.[14] http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/2623545.stm http://www.military-quotes.com/forum/israeli-armor-magazin-chieftain-dirty-t443.html Cheers, Ian Edited August 5, 2016 by ian buick
AgentG
I'm sure at some point a new diesel engine would have been installed. An engine change would bring the tank into spec with other Israeli AFV's, eliminating logistics issues. G
phildagreek
As it didn't go into service, nobody knows, so have some fun with it!
Niall
I have seen a report that 3 Cheiftains were trialled by the Israeli army in 67-68. They asked if it could be rebuilt with the engine in the front of the hull.
vtecjack
It looks like the Israelis made the right decision,if you read about all the problems the Iranians had with their chieftains !

Panzer Vor!!!
Reading articles and chatting to ex Israeli tank crews the IDF were quite keen on the Chieftain and not happy at not being able to buy it They had cooperated in the desert trials and made suggestions for improvements
