Killingholme
Hi folks. Can anybody tell me if i could use the decals from the print scale sheet to make a R-6D us navy aircraft for the cloudmaster kit? Yeah, probably. The 'United States Navy' and fin flag look about the same size to me. You'd need to make up the the Bu.No's and the various trim stripes/wing markings (and squadron markings). I don't think any manufacturer has dedicated a sheet to this type. Designation 'Cloudmaster' is a bit vague, I assume you mean the model referred to as 'Liftmaster'? The R-6D was the Navy version of the C-118: it had cargo doors fore and aft and was the closest equivalent of civil DC-6A. Here's one from VR-24 Navy Transport Squadron Edited July 30, 2016 by Killingholme
e8n2
I would be very careful of Printscale decals. The aircraft in the photo clearly has the 60° BuNo and U.S. Navy titles. Printscale often uses the AF 45° numbers and lettering even when it is not appropriate to the subject at hand. I have not seen the sheet you are referring to but I have noticed it on some of the other sheets of their's that I have purchased. Later, Dave I can confirm that the Print Scale sheet for the C-54 (72-203) has the incorrect 45° lettering style, and it appears the "United States Navy" fuselage titles are larger than those depicted in the photo above. Caracal Decals 72-045 has the correct lettering size and style for the US Navy. See http://caracalmodels.com/cd72045.html. Hannants list some in stock as of today. TOPGUN88
Thanks guys. I only have the dc-6b heller kit and dont like the decals. Was wondering if there are any other options, military/non military for the kit.
Killingholme
There's quite a few- and very colourful they generally are too! https://www.scalemates.com/search-solr.php?q=%22douglas+dc-6%22++1%3A72 http://www.vintageflyerdecals.com/dc-6--dc-6b.html(although note a number of these are for DC-6, not the stretched DC-6B. It's a conversion that is easy enough when I asked about it here- http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235006422-dc-66b-differences/ (Note also that early DC-6Bs had a short nosecone- like a C-54.) I don't think you'll struggle to find something interesting- just look at the list of operators! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Douglas_DC-6_operators Not many DC-6B (no cargo door) operated by military users- They generally used the C-118 Will Edited August 3, 2016 by Killingholme
Jessica
You could chop the fuselage down to DC-4 length, hang RCAF markings on it and have yourself a model of the one and only Canadair C-5.
