Take a Capri, add a touch of Mercury and a sprinkle of Merkur

Recommended Posts

Ok so this is my stress reliever build whilst I continue with my Days of Thunder build:

A Mustang Cobra Turbo and a Mercury Capri Turbo RS.

Now for the back story.

I started the Mustang way back when my Peugeot 206 WRC was stalling and it in turn stalled because I damaged the glass cutting it from the sprue :(

Upon restarting it I decided to us the Tinted glass from the Mercury on the Mustang as I thought the tint would look better suited to the Modded look of it, as opposed to the Standard look the Capri kit has.

So with that carefully sawn off the runner and glued in place. It just remained to close everything up and add the decals. 3hrs later I had a finished kit.

Better pics in the RFI here:

Colour is Rover Inca Yellow over Black and I based it on a pic of a real Mustang Cobra albeit with the 5.0 V8 lol

But it's not good for a stress reliever build is it? lol. So I though I'd continue on with the Capri.

Obviously I will need a new glass piece but as it stands I actually only need a new windscreen. The rest can be salvaged.

Anyway that's it for this update unfortunately. Progress will be slow like my Stratos build, so when the next update will be is anyone's guess and I have no idea how much it will contain lol.

Ok update time.

I've been working on this as I've been trying to hold off get too far ahead of myself with the Nascar build.

And I remembered to take pics along the way lol.

The body with the front and rear ends glued on and the bonnet fitted:

I decided to use Humbrol's Midnight blue for my Valvoline Pontiac and thought the colour would suit this. What do you think?

The chassis and interior where all sprayed matt black and assembled:

The engine's coming along nicely:

As for the wheels. I wasn't sure how to paint the design so I went looking for reference pics. Oh boy was that an endeavour. Not one car have this type of wheel fitted and finally I found this pic:

This is the only photo I can find with these wheels fitted. Considering I find them about as ugly as Dolly Sprint wheels I can only assume that everyone else agrees with me lol.

Anyway here's the wheels sprayed matt black with the first one painted silver like the reference pic.

Yes I know it looks white lol:

A friend of mine had one of these that wasn't to far off of the color you used for the primer. His had a red interior with all that faux wooden trim that had mostly worn away. I want to say he had a tree run out in front of him one night after downing a few. It was a really miserable car to drive.

I used white primer for the Capri. The plastic was a sliver grey colour I guess so you don't have to paint it if you so wish lol.

Corr I bet that was a slight. Red interior with wood effect trim. Maybe the car decided to commute suicide instead lol.
