Tornado GR1 Foxy Killer (Gulf War) 1:72 *Pic Heavy!

Recommended Posts

Morning all!

I've always rather liked the Gulf War Tornado ZA465- otherwise known as Foxy Killer and so it would have been absurd if I was to pass up the opportunity to model this fabulous example of British aviation.

Kit:

Revell 1:72 Tornado Gr.1 (From my LMS- Mike's Models)

Extras:

Print Scale- Tornado Gr.1 Gulf War nose art (From Hannants)

-Scratchbuilt RBF tags made from paper and FOD covers made from tissue paper.

Paints Used:

Vallejo: Black, White, Medium Olive, Barley Grey, Red.

The "Desert Pink" colour was created from a variety of Vallejo paints mixed together.

AK Interactive Dust Wash used for weathering the wheels

*Note: I can't guarantee that this model is entirely accurate:

A great looking Tornado with beautiful weathering. Can't believe it was 25 years ago! I remember the night it all kicked of like it was yesterday.

Thanks for the kind comments chaps :)

Looks very nice. Were you able to fit all the pylons without instantly snapping them off like I did??!

Pat

No, I wasn't able to :D I snapped them off during assembly and during painting, as well as one of the rear elevons. Somehow I think I just about managed to hide the superglue smears on both the pylons and elevon!

How did the decals behave for you?

The decals for the various lettering and small warning markings were fine, the problem lay in the shark mouth and some of the very very thin stencilling (hence no thin white lines on the nose cone), if you push them around too much they start to break up. But overall they seemed to respond nicely to humbrol decalfix and I would definitely suggest this set for anyone interested in getting it!

Sweet, it looks really smart.

My son and his mate are both building gulf tornados during the holidays... I'm just having to be selective on the nose art as they are 7 years old....
