I guess that'll be why Flt Lt Rawcliffe ended up as aircrew in Shackletons by the time I was in the RAF with his son. The 1/48 scale Airfix EE Lightning F1A kit has the exact aircraft he 'parked' near RAF Leuchars on the box-art (all be it when it was with another Squadron). The story about a Javelin returning from a scramble mission without missiles and missile shoes hints that "someone" pressed "inadvertently" the "empty the wing pylons" button. Or there was a malfunction (remember the humidity in Singapore). But then again a competent ground crew would have realized this... T-21 Posted November 6, 2017 Share Posted November 6, 2017 (edited) Googled this September 3, 1964: C-130B T-1307 of the Indonesian Air Force and operated by 31 Squadron crashed into the Straits of Malacca whilst evading interception by a Royal Air Force Javelin FAW.9 of 60 Squadron from RAF Tengah. This was the first non-U.S. Hercules hull loss. Fabulous informative build for anybody building a Gloster Javelin kit.
