GMK
Thanks, Ray. I'm now doing two M113 (my APC & a MRV) - but each have different track! A guy on Shapeways is doing the Diehl 513B for my car as a master for casting. The older T130E1 for the Scorpion turret will be done via modifying an old Verlinden track link & casting it. GMK
A little more progress over the course of the week. The cargo hatch & filter box are close to completion. The trickiest work to date has been adding the gun depression rail ('Jesus bar') between the turret & cargo hatch to prevent own goals into the vehicle itself. The turret makes the full 360 degree/6,400 mil traverse, without interference. Interestingly, on the upgraded M113AS4, electronic interlocks superseded the need for a physical bar to prevent own goals, so one wasn't initially fitted. User complaints about the absence of a 'hand rail' led to the incorporation of a purpose designed one into the build state. Cheers.
GMK
Mucking around with a Scorpion-turreted Medium Reconnaissance Vehicle in 1/16, as well.
GMK
The car I'm building - 134329 - had a M113 hull, not a M113A1, so it had the bolted plate around the armoured fuel filler cap. Thankfully, so did the 1/1 scale example I measured. Anyone know where to find a 1/16 armoured fuel filler cap?
GMK
A bit of progress on the hull roof.
GMK
Colour experimentation for the disruptive pattern. The engine deck in kit is on the left - milled from a solid block of 2mm styrene. Not bad, considering. But the holes are cut vertically, not angled....so, my effort is on the left. Still a ways to go, but a definite improvement. Cheers
GMK
More on the engine deck. Found some fly mesh for the grills - may be a little coarse, but was trying to find 0.6 x 1.5mm. This was the best I could do. Need to add the weld blobs that affix the mesh to the grills themselves. What can't be seen is the 1mm square chunk I removed from the glacis so that it sits a little less proudly in the rebate.
GMK
Most of the work over the weekend was related to getting the hull in a better state. The glacis has been glued on, with work commencing on getting the transition between the lower hull & it correct. Also test fitted some tools from the Tamiya 1/16 M4 Sherman. In addition to tools, the Tamiya Sherman donated one of its fuel filler caps: Comments welcome, as always.
Wogga
really great effort coming on nicely.
GMK
Received some updated parts from Christian today. Managed to scale some aspects from the real vehicle: the kit has been updated accordingly. The biggest change has been the shift in the combat door on the ramp (you can see the different relative positions - old school one on top): And fit checked (the 3D printed mud guards are also visible): Squared off the corners of the roof of the hull. The surface underpinning the lifting points extend to the very edges. And - the idlers have arrived!
GMK
Some more progress today. AMU brush guards on Australian M113A1 were a bit beefier than the standard, using flat stock section twisted, then bent into shape, before being welded in position. The results were somewhat agricultural - thankfully. As such, I rate my efforts as broadly representative. More tomorrow - may even finish the roof!
GMK
Made a start on the driver's hatch. By the time I inherited 'my' car, a series of stolen APC rampage incidents (http://m.imgur.com/gallery/11iTk69) had led to a 'spider' lock being installed in place of the hatch-mounted driver's night viewer. I'll add the lock cover, hasp, & hold open next. Almost all of the hull roof fittings are now complete & fitted. The 'cut' edge of the driver's hatch can be seen here. Still need to finish the hinges. Away for the next week, so things will slow down.
GMK
Got some paint on, to check what it looks like: And had the opportunity to collect some more references thanks to work:
GMK
The CAD guy (thanks Matt) really took advantage of the great references I was able to collect to refine the CAD: I've done more work on the driver's hatch cover and refined the tone of the FS30129 tan. Adding 'flesh' toned paint has certainly improved the look: Only some minor fittings to go & the roof can be set aside to concentrate on the hull.
GMK
As expected, adding the turret vision blocks that I'd cut earlier from a CD case to pre-cut holes in the turret sides set at a 60 degree angle wasn't fun, nor tidy. Now that they're basically fitted, the turret structure is sealed, ready for a mold to be taken. Still need to detail the sealant, weld runs, & vision block bolts, but it's definitely on the downhill. Primer, then in the mail to get a resin copy for a future build. Mantlet rework to follow.
GMK
Well, after some time in the US, Japan, & Indonesia for work, minor progress has been made on 31. Thought I'd add a splash of colour to see what things look like. Neither the camouflage pattern nor the colours are 100%, but they are good for project morale. Comments welcome.

GMK
Some expressed concerns over the fidelity of the colours used, specifically the tan (FS30219 out of the tin). I used the early morning light that better captures what it looks like IRL: /URL]
