Paul J
I went today courtesy of my company. The first ever for me to go on a trade day and the frist since 1998!! Pics to come... lots. In the meantime , the weather today (12/07/16) wasn't too bad with some gusty wind and passing showers which cleared for most of the afternoon and didn't hamper the flying. For me the flying highlights were the Boeing 787-9 and Super Hornet. and an impressive fully loaded Typhoon. It ended with the P-8 Poseidon but just previous to that was the F-35b ZM137 that flew up and back to Fairford. Is it me or is the thing so much noisier than the Harrier? Or is it so because its been a long time since I last saw/heard a Harrier display? Back later with a few pics that will be added to as and when I get them sorted. Paul J
Here are a few pics for now. I selected about 60 from those I took today but not sure how many I'll post here. Never thought how attractive a pic of a muddy airfield could look like( ) All black( with a bit of grey on its belly) AMI MC-27. Mil 17 from Ukraine The above shots of the F-35B, ZM137. Not one of my modern faves but now I have seen one in action, I still feel undecided about it. All those hatches and doors dangling and poking out just to make it hover. The Harrier didn't have all that to do the same. And the noise... Black Cats with Wildcats! Thats it for now. More over the next few nights.

Latinbear
Particularly like shot number 2..... . The mud perfectly illustrates what rubbish weather we're having for this time of year.
jasman71
They showed it on the BBC news this morning , Farnborough being evacuated for health and safety reasons due to the weather! Meh...I went to a West Malling show in the 80's when a hurricane hit it, didn't stop me from spending All-weather-capable moocher back then! Radleigh
Lovely, the Mi-8MTV-1 went into Norwich prior to going to Farnborough to be repainted so it looked brand new... from dull dirty white, to the white you see here. Nice shots

Dave Fleming
The F35 is much noiser than the Harrier, even in level flight
Truro Model Builder
The F35 is much noiser than the Harrier, even in level flight Maybe it's a nostalgia thing, but it did not seem anywhere near as noisy in the hover as the Harrier was. More throaty in forward flight for sure.
PhantomBigStu
Probably because of the differing platform, in the harrier, had 20K+lbs of thrust blasting through two little tiny nozzles, where as in the 35, theres only18Klbs goign through a large sized jet nozzle, with the bulk of the thrust coming from the fan, which as we know from the use in civies is much quieter, making the f35 much quiter in the hover, but of course once its flying forward and that big afterburner kicks in, cancels out the difference the nozzles make. Paul J
A few more pics: USCG C-27. P-8 Boeing Herc across the other side. Dornier 328 jet. A theme going on with some designs I noticed. This, the ANT-178 and the Brazilian KC-390 all have the same highwing, T tail, podded engines and sloping fontage. Hmm. A 350 The flying display opener were these. Up from Fairford. A couple of passes and back to base. The F-35( this one the USMC one) also operated from Fairford and back. Did not stop off Tucked among the Exhibition halls was ths very sinister black Blackhawk.... with a civvy Polish reggie?? Anyone know what this is about??? Crewless Piaggio Avanti... Drone???? The Brazilian new transporter. Those nose wheels look fat and a bit oversized! Probablt due to the rough terrain landings it is expected to do...? All black "Leonardo" Merlin or is it the newer CSAR??? Thats it for tonight. More tomorrow. Thanks for comments and looking.

Radleigh
The Blackhawk is Polish built, and is now a PZL Mielec Sikorsky S-70I Blackhawk. I'm not sure if this will be a thing for ALL Blackhawks, or just this version.
jasman71
A fair few pics of the Blackhawk online, but this linky shows it from 2013, and the write up says it was being pitted against a couple of other types for evaluation. https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:PZL-Mielec_S-70i_Blackhawk_SP-YVA_025_(11995054103).jpg

Rickpadwick1801
Nice pictures there Paul, I saw the F-35s, Black Cats and A400M when I was up at Fairford for RIAT on the Sunday. It was a great day. Can't believe how muddy farnborough was. All the best, Rick
