KINETIC EA-6B Prowler in 1/48

Recommended Posts

It was about time for this to begin.

I have been gathering information and photos for so long...

Practically have been just postponing the inevitable :-)

The project is about building an ICAP II prowler with as much detail as possible.

This will also include the two engines exposed.

The build will include the following detail sets:

EDUARD - EA-6B undercarriege EDUARD - EA-6B Electronic Equipments EDUARD - EA-6B Exterior EDUARD - EA-6B Interior (just bits and pieces) EDUARD - EA-6B Wing Fold (also bits and pieces) EDUARD - EA-6B Cockpit Set (just the seats) WOLFPACK - EA-6B Radar and Avionics Set WOLFPACK - EA-6B Wheel Bay Set AMS Resin - EA-6B Seamless Intakes (maybe) CAM - Jammin' Prowlers, VAQ-130 Zappers

To that will be added my scratch built J52 engine in two copies.

So, the project started with the engines:

Here is the first out of 4 seats:

A very long way to go...

Looks good so far! How's the quality of the kit looking? Fit? Mouldings etc?

Well, not much of the original kit used so far, but it is quite good.

The plastic surfaces are rather rough when compared to Tamiya, AMK or Hasegawa, but all the detail is there, in the format of convincing engraved panel lines. The included detail in the Landing Gear and the cockpit is fair enough, especially for the price.

The first one I got about a year ago, had no flash at all. The one I recently got (including the three wheel tractor) has some flash and also few parts that are not so well casted (e.g. the area between the front and the rear canopy).

Fit is not perfect, but definitely not bad either. 100% doable, with no need for magic!

It is the best option out there, for the scale. Can be built into a decent model, with absolutely no accessories.

Superdetailers though, will find a lot to work with...

Prowler is an amazingly beautiful bird!

I had started with Monogram in the past, doing quite a lot of work on it, but the Kinetic EA-6B made that one obsolete.

Let's hope that I manage to get it done this time...

Just to mention that the Kinetic cockpit is not bad either. It builds beautifully and with eduard additions becomes almost like real. This will be the option for the second one to follow.

One with extended wings and one with folded. At least that's the plan :-)

you're doing a great job there. Must be nice knowing that it will slide into the fuselage nicely. :pilot: looking forward to this coming together.

John

I copied some of your tricks for that ;-)

Hi John,

Yes, actually I have glued everything in place. I wanted to add the RBF tapes and a couple of helmets, before enclosing it in the fuselage.

I will mask it using the canopy, as a have a spare one that I do not care if I destroy in the process.

Electronics internal bay is next :-)

Some small progress..

Test fitting of the parts inside the fuselage, above the Birdcage...

A lot of cabling is yet to be added and some small devices here and there. But basically the left side is done...
