I've just got a hold of the 'Mig-27D' boxing of this kit, looks like a nice kit other than the problem with the nose but that won't put me off building it. Hopefully with this new boxing Trumpeter will allow for a scheme other than one with red stars on it like an Indian AF example perhaps!

From the back of my head, there were no external difference between MiG-27D and M, one being upgraded examples other serial machines...

Any info regarding box content and difference in plastic?

Cheers

You're right Pertavu. There's no external difference between MiG-27D and MiG-27M.

- MiG-27M (M for модификациями - modified) or Article 32-29 were new build second generation fighter-bomber "Flogger".

- MiG-27D (D for доработани - improved) or Article 32-27 were 1st generation fighter-bomber "Flogger" airframes returned to the factory to be upgraded to MiG-27M standard.

Though their single NATO designation of "Flogger-J".

I think you might be mixing up the Russian version designation and the ASCC version designation. Trumpy isn't doing a MiG-27D AFAIK but a MiG-27 flogger D.

You're quite correct Laurent, just checked the box and a Flogger D it is!

M/D? And there's already a D nose set. Was there like a 'late' D nose which matched the M one or what?

I don't have any in-depth MiG-27 book to use as a reference.

No.

There's already a MiG-23BN "Flogger-H" (ref. CWS48005) and a MiG-27 "Flogger-D" (ref. CW48009) nose set but not yet a MiG-27D/M "Flogger-J" nose set (ref. CWS48010).

There's also a MiG-27K "Flogger-J2" nose set in the pipeline (ref. CWS48011).

Ah, sorry. I thought MiG-27D's were Flogger D's (like, the initial MiG-27 production variant), rather than initial ones upgraded to M standard which is what they were.

Thanks for clearing that up.

The CWS48010 MiG-27 D/M set in 1/48 scale so far. I am waiting for 4 additional resin parts for the interior. So stay tuned, the release date is coming soon. Don't forget there will be decals available for MiG-27 D and K as a separate product.

Which Trumpeter base kit is best suited for this conversion?

Simple intakes and short exhaust afaik..any relevant differences elsewhere?

CWS48010 MiG-27 D/M Flogger J final parts count. I will assemble it the next several days for the instructions and then it will be available next week if everything is ok.
The new edition of the MiG-23 BN will get the same treatment with new PE parts, seat harness and Instrument panel coaming. Should be available by the end of next week: link.

Seriously tempting   It'd make for an expensive project but at least it'd look correct and that's more than can be said for the standard kit.
