CedB
You may remember that my last attempt at a 'pink Spitfire' was highjacked by BMers pointing out that the subject I'd chosen was 'Camotint'. Rats. I'd bought lots of paint to mix up a 'not quite white' pink and I don't want to waste it. Or the rest of the Pavla conversion. Beard has told me that: "If you want to make a pink PR1G, any Mk1 is a good starting point and you can use the Pavla bits (the seat with armour, fuel tank and canopy with bulges (although it had an armoured windscreen so you'll either need to chop up the kit canopy or get a replacement vac-form, (Pavla do some))." So, here we have it: Untitled by Ced Bufton, on Flickr I'll make a start soon and hope I can get close to the beautiful example John completed recently. Only smaller, obviously.

jrlx
Hi Ced! Looking forward to seeing this one developing! I'm always in for a Spitfire WIP. As they say, you can't have too many of them I said this before, but I have to say it again: I'm amazed with your rate of model building! Cheers Jaime

CedB
Thanks everyone (Simon of course you may, wouldn't be the same without you!) Held my breath this morning and cut the resin parts I think I need: Untitled by Ced Bufton, on Flickr A slightly blurred close up (sorry) of the back of the tank, which will (probably) not be seen again: I've also cut the other bits off what I now know is called 'the runners' ready for attention: Pre-painted pilot from the reserve crew room; if he's too big I'll swap him for a smaller one. No pressure on this one (is there ever?) so looking forward to spending a bit more time on the build.
Beard
Thanks Ced. I'd suggest we do a joint build, if I wasn't preparing for house viewings, recording an EP, getting ready to go on holiday, thinking about what to buy my wife for our anniversary and, in the middle of my Spitfire 22 build.
Beard
Oh, and I don't think that both the tank and oxygen bottles will fit in cockpit.
CedB
Hi Simon Thanks for the warning! Pity we can't do a joint build but you're obviously very busy... if it helps this site has a list of anniversaries and suitable gifts although, apparently "Wedding Anniversaries above 15 years not ending in 5 or 0 do not have traditional materials associated against them however our database provides modern or contemporary materials up to 50 years." For my next one, as there's no 'traditional material', it's suggested a new car or a cruise I like the look of that 'Lace Lingerie' though... very nice hair and things... do you think Mrs B would let me have one?
Beard
Thanks for that, Ced. Apparently the traditional 2nd wedding anniversary is cotton so she's getting socks (and I'll be getting divorce papers).
Biggles87
That tank looks remarkably like the on I scratch built based on the drawings in the Spitfire Datafile Pt 1, and you definitely won't be able to get the air and oxygen bottles in there with it. I did try to find out where they had been re-located to but without success. Does the Pavla kit provide the larger oil cooler or is there one in the kit? jrlx
Great start, Ced! I hope you used a respirator mask and gloves when cutting the resin parts off their blocks. I also do this on a damp paper towel to make sure the resin dust doesn't fly around. Thanks for the link to the discussion on runners vs sprues. I'll use the proper term from now on Cheers Jaime
CedB
Cotton socks Simon? Thanks John - I had a look for new locations too to no avail, but I did come across some nice cutaway sites like this one (Edit: no longer there 5/2017) which has a nice cutaway of a PR Mk XI. There is a larger oil cooler in the Pavla kit and I've marked up the instructions for later. This one, shown next to the kit part: At least now I won't have to handle that AWFUL sink mark Thanks Jaime. No I didn't (cough) use a respirator (cough), silly me. Great advice and I'll (try to) remember next time. I've cleaned up the ejector marks using a dental burr: Untitled by Ced Bufton, on Flickr and glued the resin tank to the back of the bulkhead ready for spraying: (Ooo, there's the back of the tank again). Other parts were stuck to sticks and taken to the spray booth. Interior green? Enee meeny miny mo by Ced Bufton, on Flickr not including the H78 (which I don't try to spray). I thought I'd try the Hataka as this is an early mark and it came with the PR set: Yep, that's IG. Sprays nicely but took ages to clean the AB using Ultimate cleaner. Paul recommends using the proprietary cleaner but I don't have any. Oh well. I'll let that dry and then start detailing.

Beard
Ced, I hate to be the one to have to tell you that you'll be dealing with that sink-mark in the carburettor intake... the bigger one is a tropical filter. CedB
Ced, I hate to be the one to have to tell you that you'll be dealing with that sink-mark in the carburettor intake... the bigger one is a tropical filter. (Edited to correct spelling.) Thanks Simon. I'd rather fill the hole than cut the resin and have the filling job on that... sorry John. Well Mr PRIg, would you like these bottles fitted? No tanks by Ced Bufton, on Flickr No tanks - geddit? It's sort of like 'No thanks'! Oh suit yourselves... Next thing. Are these things on the lower pegs intentional locating pins or just rubbish molds? Steps on the support? by Ced Bufton, on Flickr The resin seat will probably have to be fitted differently anyway, no doubt, but useful info for next time. Internals done and drying. I've done the tank main body aluminium, leaving the front and bands IG as per the Pavla instructions. Finally, the 'red-brown' seat. I've covered this in H73 but the instructions say IG and H9 - Tan? What colour should the armour be? And the padding? Alex posted this (hope you don't mind me nicking it Alex) from a Spitfire Mk VIII. So paint the armour IG and the padding 'leather'?

CedB
Welcome Steve, glad to have you along That seat colour worried me (too red) so I checked my notes and I'm supposed to be using H70 (brick red) not H73 (Wine). Like this: I've just done the 'not armour and padding'. Better?
