Eric Mc
I don't think Polaris type missiles led to the moon landings - so I don't think we'll be bumping into Kim Jong Un on the Sea of Tranquility anytime soon.

Eric Mc
Only in the most indirect way. It was specifically the development of powerful liquid fuelled engines using LOX/Keosene and LOX/LHe that allowed rockets like the Saturn family to be built. Solid Rockets were a separate line of development primarilly with ballistic missiles in mind. In time, large solids have indeed been adapted for manned flights, the Shuttle being the obvious example. And, of course, SLS will use the same technology. But Apollo didn't make much use of solid rocket technology. The only application I can think of was the Launch Escape Tower - which of course, was never used in anger..
