MetroRacing
Ok so I've still not got full access to my PC but I've managing to contort myself around my car doors to be able to catch up with all my progress of late. I started this kit last week and it's just a straight out of the box build and my 3rd Stratos kit lol. Building these kits is always easy as the chassis and interior are all black so out with the black spray paint and within a couple hours you're away building hehe. This is how things stand as of tonight. I decided to paint the green sections of the body. I've found on a previous building of the '77 Monte Carlo car that Revell's 62 is a perfect match for the green on the '76 and '77 cars. Laziness made me use it on my '75 Monte Carlo car and so I'm using it on this too. in reality it should be a darker shade. I'll likely be using Humbrols Red Arrows red too as it's again a match for the Alitalia red. Still another few coats to go and then I'll sand it till smooth and clear coat. I've learnt the hard way in the past to use Humbrol enamel gloss clear spray so stop it crazing the green paint so I've brought a can ready. That's it for now. Happy to answer any questions etc as I know I've been brief. Sitting at the PC at a funny angle is doing wonders for my back lol. MetroRacing
Considering my favourite rally car, and Lancia for that matter is the Rally (037) and I have at least 10 versions to build in the stash; I only have 1 built. Yet I'm onto my 3rd Stratos kit lol. I even have a Revell boxing in the stash with etch and an engine just waiting for me to decide what decals to get for it. These kits are just a simple thing that can be thrown together in a short time. So I guess that's what appeals about them and why they are filling up my shelf space lol. MetroRacing
No pics as the painting of the green has been taking as age. I clear coated it yesterday ready for more sanding and decals and had a heart stopping moment when the Humbrol spray acted like an on off switch. No variation to differing amounts of pressure on the nozzle. The result was a very think coat that was even milky. Luckily it's drying clear. But because of the thickness of the coat I'm going to leave it till the weekend before carrying on with it. Not really any more progress on the interior worth posting about. Just painting of the extinguishers and getting the seat belts ready to go on. I've started another project that will be a long term one man group build and I'll post it up on Friday when I'll actually have something to show for the amount of money I've sunk into it already lol. MetroRacing
Ok so I've managed to get some pics today. This is how the chassis as on this morning: Still the seats to be added. They are painted, just waiting to get the seat belts sorted out. The dash still needs a bit of detail painting and the dial decals adding. I looked over the body this morning. From a distance its looking good: A little touch up as expected along the demarcation lines where the green meets white, but surprisingly a lot of the green has been levelled out by the clear coat. The roof is the only area that still needs further sanding: Which isn't a bad thing as a lot of the white areas need sanding to remove dust a hair I don't know what it is but whenever I use Humbrol's enamel clear spray, I always end up with tons of dust particles in it. I know I'll never get them all out so ill just have to find a middle ground with which I'm happy and can live with it. I'm hoping to get the seat belts and seats fitted today and make a start on the sanding of the body now that the clear has had a few days to harden. MetroRacing
Still plugging away at this. Decals finished: Touched up the green areas and will clear coat the body to seal it all before I mask and spray over the red using Humbrol's Red Arrows red: Excuse the dodgy pic lol. MetroRacing
OK I haven't forgotten about this. I've managed to get it 99% complete so have posted a RFI here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235006247-lancia-stratos-hf-san-remo-rally-1975/ Still to put a couple of decals on. I've been using this build as a stress reliever whilst I've been working away on my Days of Thunder build. These stratus's are quite stress free once you've built a few. All the green areas were brush painted like mentioned and I've very pleased with the results. She will take pride of place of the Ledge of Lusty Lancia's soon lol. Thanks to those that have followed along, I know it's not been the most enthralling of builds lol. TTFN Ashley
