thorfinn
Greetings to all. Here's a 'quick and dirty' one, just for fun. This is a tribute to my favorite Matchbox car of my youth, the famous BP Alvis Stalwart. I slightly-modified the chassis and wheels from an old Airfix 1/76 Saracen armoured car, and built up the body with styrene sheet, with clear acetate for the windows. I didn't get it exactly right---there's a bit too much 'hang' in the back, and the green in the home-made decals came out a bit blotchy---but I enjoyed every second of it, and it's fun having that 'pug' shape squatting on my model shelf. Hope you enjoy it as well.
Pete in Lincs
Brilliant. Love it. Why isn't there a kit of the Stalwart? I actually saw one a couple of years ago filling up at our local petrol station. I still have a Matchbox one in a cupboard (with others). If I remember rightly it is an odd one as the wheels are green.
thorfinn
I share your frustration. I found some pricey resin ones in 1/35, but they were way too 'up-market' for what I had in mind. Thanks for checking in. Edited June 16, 2016 by thorfinn
Foghorn Leghorn
Aah, bring back wonderful Matchbox memories, great scratchbuilding! It's the only subject on my "A" list that I'm waiting to be kitted, the AA kit is too expensive for my pockets
dogsbody
I had that Matchbox toy as a kid, too! Nice work. Chris

Mark761
There are a few kits out there, in varying scales and price. KFS do a 1:24th; Matador Models do a 1:76/72nd, which was the BM Models(?) kit; Accurate Armour do a 1:35th and there are at least 2 other 1:35th scale kits that were / are available, but the manufacturers names escape me at the moment. Airfix also did a 1:32nd soft plastic version that appears on auction sites and elsewhere quite often. Mark. It was BW that Matador got the moulds from, they released it last year and it's around £18. PS - you've made a brilliant job of the model. HansReggelsen
Love it! Firing Line makes a resin kit in 1/35 - not inespensive, but not THAT expensive either! Hmmm...maybe a BP one? Cheers Hans J
Miggers
You do know that JB did a very small run of their Stolly but it's never been seen since. We saw a load of them for sale on a stall at the South Cheshire Militaire about ten years ago, never thought to buy one though.
Mark761
Didn't know JB did a Stolly, Airfix re-released most of their kits a few years ago I seem to recall. Lots of good '80s British Army kit! Dartmore was the other name I couldn't remember. I seem to recall the reviews of the kit said it was a mongrel of a Stolly, being a mix of a mark 1 and mark 2 vehicle. A bit like that brilliant Mk 5 Chieftain 1:35th kit, which is as much a Mk5 as fly in the air.

cjhm
Simply Superb, well doneI had the Matchbox one too (possibly still in a box of stuff somewhere ....)Love the Stalwart for the same reasonsRemember having a go in my early teens at scratchbuilding one using an old Airfix magazine article and Scammell Transporter wheels, didn't turn out well ...Did the BM one:http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234935084-stalwart/ There was a recent resin wargaming one in 72/76 as well but can't refind the website but its mentioned here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/67718-alvis-stalwart/ Not sure if the JB one is an urban myth or not, seen different opinions over the years but I've done most of their Alvis kits (Alvi?) http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234951277-saladin/?hl=%2Bcjhm+%2Balvis Saw a real one at War and Peace show last year too (http://blog.cjhm.net/war-peace-revival-show), epic machine
