Flipper
Hi there I'm currently building this kit for my nephew. It's going to be a replica of a car he had a passenger ride in round the centre of Rome. It's going to be built up straight out the box, with some of the PE parts from the Hobby Design kit. The exterior will be painted using Zero Paints Rosso Corsa 300. The rest of it will be painted using Tamiya and Vallejo Acrylics. Anyway here goes. The kit which is ok, but the fit and finish on some parts leaves a lot to be desired. The paint bought from Hiroboy The car I'm hoping to replicate First up the full lot got a nice bath to get rid of any mould release agent Loads of mould lines, even more than highlighted here, especially a nasty one right down the middle of the roof.
Flipper
Once I'd smoothed all the lines I gave it a coat of UMP/Badger grey primer. Next up if thought I'd do something different I haven't tried before. I'm going to add front and rear lights, just basic ones, to see how I get on, as electronics isn't exactly my forte. Here's the rear lights, but you get the drift. These will be covered by the red lens.
Flipper
Next up was one item I wanted to address from looking at other Revell 458 kits, is the ride height which in my opinion there is way to much tyre to wheel arch gap. After a bit of measuring I came up with the idea of moving the hub mounting pins, I thought about cutting them off the repositioning them, but I was worried about the rigidity. So my solution was to glue in a small piece of plasticard on the top flat section of the mounting pin. These are the rear hubs I then filed the bottom up making sure the remaining pin was the exact size as before. I used this helpful tool to make sure it all measured up. And the result maybe a bit low but far more appealing to my eye.
Flipper
Next up was the engine, some of the gaps on the individual pieces left a lot to be desired, but after some filling here and there, I got there. I then painted it up using both Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics
Flipper
Next up with the brakes The before shot, whoever at Revell thought these would be acceptable..... And the after shot, as you'll agree far more appealing Next up the chassis was given a good coat of Tamiya Semi Gloss Black, and the A arms a coat of Vallejo Aluminium. I then sat the engine in there. Edited June 16, 2016 by Flipper
Flipper
Next up were the wheels, these are a horrible chrome in the kit, which made them chunky in appearance and not very realistic. I then stripped the chrome off, painted them up Semi Gloss Black, with some coats of Alclad2 Aqua Gloss. I also painted up and decaled the brakes.
Flipper
I then gave the car a coat of UMP white primer and did the same modification to the front suspension. A lot better looking in my opinion. I then added the small intakes with PE grills again the fit of these parts left a lot to be desired.
Flipper
Next up was a couple of coats of Zero Paints Rosso Corsa 300. Once dry I'll flatten back these coats then give it a couple more coats, then I'll clear it with their 1k Pre Mixed Lacquer. And why you should always wear a mask when painting especially with a cellulose paint. This is a brand new mask.

I've also got a 1/24 Lamborghini Aventador Roadster to do, now a 1:1 version of that would be nice. Edited June 17, 2016 by Flipper

Looking forward to the next update Mike Yep I agree with you, but my nephew wanted these wheels and tyres on it, I would have preferred something bigger with a little less meat on them.
Flipper
Finally built up the energy to do a bit more on the Ferrari. That's almost most of the interior done. It went together fairly well, the tan leather was my own mix of Vallejo Iraqi Sand, with some Vallejo white. The dashboard is a mix of Tamiya Semi Gloss Black, Vallejo Metallic Black, and Gun Metal. The seats and side panels also received a light brown wash just to bring out the lines a bit. The decals are from the kit, except for the 458 badge on the dash, which came from a metal badge kit. The metal foot rest, pedals and flappy paddles came from the PE kit. Anyway I hope you like it, and thanks for looking.
Rich G
Really nice job so far, I agree about the ride height, it's one thing I will definitely address on the kit I have. I also like the PE brakes, I might need to invest in those. Rich
Flipper
It's probably the best part of the PE kit, and a really simple part to fit, plus the kit wasn't that expensive Edited July 6, 2016 by Flipper
Flipper
Just a quick question, thats the final coat of red laid down, now I've still to paint the roof, side skirts black along with several other bits and pieces here and there. Now as its a Basecoat its matt and slightly rough. Would it be better to give it a couple of coats of clear then mask it up, or will it be ok just to mask up the basecoat as it is. I hope this makes sense.
MikeGTC
Depends if you want a gloss of matt roof. I would have giving the roof at least 1 coat of red to. You might see where you stopped painting the red. Not 100% sure about this. The side skirts and pieces on the rear I would paint matt black. Really nice work so far on the car man! mcdonnell
Hello,Flipper - Great to know you've enjoyed some modelling time once again. That interior looks absolutely superb! If it was my model,I'd be tempted to give her a couple of coats of Klear before any next stage. It will build a smoother surface for the masking tape and most importantly protect the red basecoat.Knowing the quality of your work,I know you'll do what you feel is best!.Great work. All the very best,Paul.
Flipper
I've just bought a new Iwata Rev CR for my lacquer and cellulose work, again it was far easier painting with this AB. Anyway the car is to have a black roof and sills. I masked it all off. I then painted the roof and sills in Zero Paints Black. I'll give it a good coat of Zero Paints pre thinned lacquer in a few days time

Flipper
Cheers Mike, it wasn't till I took off all the masking tape, I realised there is some other areas that need some black paint, namely the rear section and a couple of bits on the front, arghhhhh. Oh well that's tomorrow's job lol Edited July 25, 2016 by Flipper
Flipper
Well I did some more on it today, not too much as I still struggle to sit with my leg down. Anyway painted the other black bits I forgot about and fired on the body decals. Hopefully I might get to clear coat it over the next few days Anyway thanks for looking

Flipper
Cheers Mike, I have enjoyed doing this one, so I've bought a Aoshima Lamborghini Aventador Roadster, the level of detail in that one is amazing. Anyway on with the Ferrari, and it's tailgate. Edited July 28, 2016 by Flipper
