County Class guided missile destroyers photo site

Recommended Posts

I've just come across this site on Flickr that has loads of highly detailed photographs of the County Class GMD's. This could be a good resource for anyone building either Atlantic Models' 1:350 HMS Glamorgan or Airfix's 1:600 HMS Devonshire kit.

Always liked the look of these ships, something really sleek and balanced about the design.

I thought they set the trend for post-war British warship design, viz elegant yachts unsullied by anything as vulgar as armament. You must admit it's a lot of ship for precious little weaponry. Compare that with a Kresta or Krivak, with nastiness crammed into every corner (not that any of it necessarily worked, of course).

Agreed, although I believe the whole ship was designed around Seaslug, the magazine/assembly/prep area extended a considerble length of the vessel internally hence the design. Got the recent Neil McCart book on them, highly recommended.

Thanks for the link. Brings back lots of memories as I spent over three years on HMS Antrim which was the first ship I served onboard during my RN career - and my favourite.
