Photo Etch Detail Set for Airfix HMS Cossack

1:600 Atlantic Models

Atlantic Models are on a bit of a roll when it comes to breathing new life into classic kits. The latest vintage plastic to be subjected to their attentions is Airfix's 1:600 scale HMS Cossack. This venerable kit was one of the first warships to be release by Airfix, way back in 1959. The kit is fairly crude by today's standards, so all the more reason to pick up this set from Atlantic Models if you wish to do justice to his handsome vessel

Inside the white envelope is a single fret of thin, flexible brass. The fret is well protected by a piece of folded card as well as the three sheet instruction book. The instructions are printed on A4 paper and all of the parts are clearly labelled. The illustrations that accompany the instructions are very clear too. The fret itself includes all of the usual parts you would expect to find, including ladders, chains, railings and anchors. It also includes a full set of anti-aircraft armament, including the four barrelled pom pom mountings, the 0.5" Quad machine guns and the 20mm Oerlikons. Radar antennas are included, as well as parts for detailing the tripod mast or, if you prefer, replacing it with a choice of lattice masts. Racks for the Carley Rafts are also included, alongside smaller details include boat davits, the funnel cap and depth charge equipment.

Conclusion

It's great to see Atlantic Models once again breathing new life into a venerable kit. Even though Airfix's Cossack hasn't been on sale for over thirty years, it shouldn't be difficult to get hold of one. If you do, you now have the opportunity to bring it closer to modern standards. As with other sets from Atlantic, this set is very comprehensive and has been produced to a high standard. Highly recommended.
