Courageous
Hopefully a quick question... I'm scratch building a pair of aircraft ladders to go with my TF-86F Sabre Trainer like these: http://flickrhivemind.net/Tags/tf86f Can anybody tell me if the aircraft ladders for the USAF in the 1950's were painted and if so, what colour? bentwaters81tfw
The only pictures I have seen of that style of ladder on the F-86, the ladders were painted red.
71chally
Everything I've seen of that era shows yellow ladders, including F-84s, 86s, Century series, F-4s etc Personally speaking I would summise that generally the TF-86 ladders were yellow as well, however this picture suggests possibly both colours ( https://jetpilotoverseas.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/7597748374_dd104f30c6_b.jpg) we know the text on the fuselage is read, but the nearer ladder is in a much lighter tone, the rear one looks a similar tone. What the various pictures show is that there was real mix 'n match going on! Edited June 11, 2016 by 71chally
Courageous
Thanks guys, looks like you're both right; yellow and red. Looking at the rungs of the nearest ladder, it's definitely painted a light colour as it's been worn off. The addition of two different coloured ladders fitted to the TF-86 when it's finished will be a talking point.
