PhotoBucket are no longer permitting 3rd party hosting   01/07/17

As most of you are now painfully aware, Photobucket (PB) are stopping/have stopped allowing their members to link their accumulated years of photos into forums and the like, which they call 3rd party linking.  You can give them a non-refundable $399 a year to allow links, but I doubt that many will be rushing to take them up on that offer.  If you've previously paid them for the Pro account, it looks like you've got until your renewal to find another place to host your files, but you too will be subject to this ban unless you fork over a lot of cash.   PB seem to be making a concerted move to another type of customer, having been the butt of much displeasure over the years of a constantly worsening user interface, sloth and advertising pop-ups, with the result that they clearly don't give a hoot about the free members anymore.  If you don't have web space included in your internet package, you need to start looking for another photo host, but choose carefully, as some may follow suit and ditch their "free" members at some point.  The lesson there is keep local backups on your hard drive of everything you upload, so you can walk away if the same thing happens.   There's a thread on the subject here, so please use that to curse them, look for solutions or generall grouse about their mental capacity.   Not a nice situation for the forum users that hosted all their photos there, and there will now be a host of useless threads that relied heavily on photos from PB, but as there's not much we can do other than petition for a more equitable solution, I suggest we make the best of what we have and move on.  One thing is for certain.  It won't win them any friends, but they may not care at this point.    Mike.

We try to weed duplicates out as they come in, but some inevitably sneak past. It's a bit sad though, isn't it? Having an alter ego to validate your own insecurities? Bonkers when you think about it, but it does happen. Why do you ask btw?

How do we know if one member uses two identities? Is there way the mods can know? IP address etc.? Its happened on another Forum I'm on, only it wasn't the same IP address. One for home and another for work only he slipped up and posted his "work" name from his home's IP. He'd been agreeing with his alter ego in an argument to support his side.

Not sure that I understand why that matters? :)

Its a question I thought I'd ask. Reckon its more common than we'd think.

But you have, you have deleted a number of threads Spencer posted. I think he's posted enough material to Britmodeller and promoted the hobby to given the benefit of the doubt.

Britmodeller has rather shot itself in the foot, even if it's an Airsoft round.

Exactly, every loses.

We lose an ambassador to our hobby. A person with his finger on the pulse.

Sharapova,Lance Armstrong,Ben Johnson . Great ambassadors for their respective sports. It doesn't matter. Rules are rules.

They broke the rules and were suspended/banned/gone. Nobody is too big for rules. No one.

Other ambassadors are available.

Been reading through this and...........

Surely 1st and foremost the level of ire from people who just want to build lumps of plastic is unbelievable! Go build something! Calm down and think about this. But then let's put this in perspective britmodelle is a resources mentioned on the homepage and that resource is only as good as the contributors. You lose the contributors you lose the resource, word gets around and the respurce is no longer used. I think a balance has to be struck here maybe it seems harsh what the mods have done yes. But it doesn't exist so that others can make money from this site and make no mistake about it people make money from this promotion.

This is going to isolate some. So be it but rules are rules it's easy enough to go off to you tube and find this stuff yourself, but how do you feel about lining the pockets of those who are just shamelessly promoting for financial gain? For every spence there are 50 shops and manufacturers skewing things

I have always required the hobby to be self-finacing, but on the other hand, have always put a lot of free knowledge and techniques back into the public domain free of charge, and have usually been very ready to help people, again, free of charge. But I do find the words "pimping your wares" rather offensive. But, as you say, rules are rules and one does have the choice of staying or leaving!

My point exactly. I know who Spencer Pollard is, I have no idea who you are BZN20, other than another wannabe moderator.

And closed. I find it quite amusing that the person making the most noise has never started a topic, shown a build or in fact contributed anything of much worth to the site other than whinging.

Blog links are no longer welcome here unless it's in a signature.
