Booty003
I have been commissioned to build this for a chap and made a start the other night. This is my first build of a low run kit so am experiencing the pleasure that come with such a run...... Seat is decent enough and there will be PE to go on here once painted. An awful design of the vertical stab, the gap will need filling and carefully sanding back to look anywhere near reasonable. One upper lift engine built (minus compressor blades underneath) and every part of this needed trimming in order to fit. Lower lift fans, again every keyed part needed trimming..... Lower lift fan guides need completely removing from the lower wing area in order to fit...... Lots of removed plastic from just assembling the fan parts. Main wheel housings, yep, more trimming...... Assembled. I suspect that this will push me the more I do but time will tell..... Wish me luck....... Phil
Flankerman
Phil, welcome to the wonderful world of Modelsvit and Amodel kit building. It's very character forming - so persevere with it and you'll end up with an unusual model that will attract comments wherever it is displayed. Or..... wait until Tamiya or Hasegawa produce kits of these subjects ........ Ken
Radleigh
I love these odd ball subjects these two companies are giving us. Looking forward to seeing this done, first time I've seen this kit.

Flankerman
I suppose it depends on what you regard as 'fun' I've managed to survive building a few..... Tu-91 Boot :- http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/model_tu-91.html Tu-22KD Blinder :- http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/model_tu-22.html Bartini VVA-14 :- http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/model_vva-14_modelsvit.html MiG E-150 :- http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/model_e-150.html An-124 :- http://www.flankers-site.co.uk/modl_an-124.html ..... and I'm still here to tell the tale. They just require a bit of old-fashioned modelling - and no-one else is going to kit them - so they are really the best kits of their subjects currently available. Booty003
Ken - your Tu-22 is an absolute work of art. The actual aircraft is almost something from science fiction. I was thinking of buying that actual kit but am more than happy to leave it on the shelf now.....!!! I will just look at yours when I feel then need...!! Flankerman
I was hoping to inspire you - not put you off !!! If I can do it..... anyone can. Ken
Booty003
LoL...!! Primed up several parts last night and will be splashing some colour around later on this evening. Will have a few more piccies tomorrow.
Booty003
A little bit more progress last night. Seat about 80% finished, need to add some more PE and buckle detail to the straps etc: Lift fans taking shape: Some nice PE for the flame holder. I have left this unpainted as it gives some nice contrast looking down into the exhaust pipe: Cheers all, Phil
Booty003
Some more progress from last night. I'm calling the seat finished: Lift fans and main U/C bays: Upper lift fan housings in place: An example of yet more poor fitment of this kit, rear fuselage okay at the top: Bottom will need some work just to get the thing to fit flush..... Booty003
Oh wow, when was this last update....????  This kit is pushing me to the limit with the amount of work required. It would of been quicker to get a solid block of plastic and whittle it away to make a Mirage....!!  Anyhoo, on we go.....  Wings joined to fuselage - this didn't fit at all well and needed parts trimming and then gluing in stages to get a relatively decent join.    Even then there was a big step and gap that has needed filler and now superglue.....   Same is true for the rear of the fuse.   Oh and the intakes.....   I am just about at the primer, check and re-scribing stage.  Phil
AdrianMF
May be taking a while but it's looking good. I've just finished one that has been sitting in a corner on and off since 2012, so don't give up on it! Â Regards, Adrian
Martian
I think its looking great, well worth the effort you have put into it so far! Â Martian
Booty003
Having a big push to get this finished and off the bench now. Â Lift fan upper door housings prior to clean up and install: Â Â Â Â All 4 installed: Â Â Â A plastic frame sits on top of the extended door things (!!!) and this PE needs delicately bending into the correct shape and then fitting on!!: Â Â Â Phil
Radleigh
Good old Modelsvit. Great work and great subject.
Martian
I have to say that this build is beginning to look rather tasty! Â Martian
Booty003
Extensive fillers, superglue and sanding....!!! Â Initial coat of primer applied to see how its all looking and I must say that I am quite pleased so far, especially around the forward intakes. Â I have applied some Mr Dissolved Putty into the areas needing additional work and once fully dry and hardened will be sanded back. Â Â Â Â I can actually see a light at the end of the tunnel now... Â Cheers all, Â Phil
Martian
That coat of primer has made all the difference! Â Martian
Booty003
After a very long break, the wonderful smells of model making are once again in the air. Put some colour on the fuselage last night to highlight any flaws, panel lines that need re-scribing etc. and there are a few....!!! I will spend tonight tidying those up ready for the proper paint job. The aircraft is a patchwork of different colours and shades - going to be a PITA.....  Phil Edited March 29, 2017 by Booty003
Booty003
Back into the swing of things now!!  The first coat of primer identified the areas that needed additional work. I have now re-scribed some missing panels - they just need a little tidy up and then I will be hitting it with some paint!!      There was a massive gap and step here - very happy with how it has turned out:   I WILL beat this kit.....!!  Phil
Booty003
I had a great Easter Monday to give some proper time to this kit, got loads done and here she is as of this morning. Â Not only is the actual build overly complicated; the actual paint application has been a challenge too.....!! Â Â Â Â Â
AngstROM
Fascinating; I had no idea this kit existed until a couple of days ago when I found something about it by accident on 'the Internets'. And here is one well under way -excellent progress indeed, but the experience has sort of informed my purchase decision.  I do like that seat, though...and the rest of it is looking really good...GAAAHHH!
Booty003
I keep chipping away at this when I find some spare time - a bit more added from the weekend. Â Â Â I did want the main U/C doors closed but they wouldn't fit due to the design of the kit - the support brace for the main gear is in the way...... Â Â Â Â Â The seat may also need some attention to fit in the pit properly..... Â Â Cheers all, Â Phil
Booty003
With pretty much all of the main painting jobs completed it was time to move onto the area of the main lift engines. Â Â The kit provided a basic plastic covering and also some photo etch that would need carefully bending into shape...!! Â Â Â The PE needs mounting to a plastic frame first: Â Â it also needs a slight curve putting into it: Â Â Â Each of the louvres needed carefully bending into place: Â Â Mounted to the plastic frame using superglue: Â Â The finished effect is fantastic: Â Â There is no comparison between the plastic and PE parts: Â Â Â Â Â Finally ready for some decals: Â Â Â Â Â Cheers all, Â Phil
