Polikarpov I-153 Chaika

Hi folk's,well I said I fancied an aircraft build and here it is nice to be back in 72 scale for my first Russian produced aircraft,I was

in the shop for paint had my usual look on the shelf and there it was, only £3:49 after discount I thought some old dodgy east

European manufacturer's offering if it was no good I could keep quiet about it and look for another subject but what a shock

on opening the box and I now know it's an ICM tooling!Heres the new style Revell box.

and the comprehensive and beautifully molded kit.

And the decals look very good to.

So an interesting subject of an aircraft which tried to stem the tide of German air power at the begining of the Great Patriotic

War.

Blimey Revell got their paws on that mould fast.....Looking forward to seeing this as I've got a couple of ICM kits in the stash.

And considering a £5:99 price tag (the same as their Matchbox and Heller re-boxings)a cracking buy.

There's a good recent review on Hyperscale- worth a look up for the reference photos. Note that Revell apparently left out the tubular cockpit structure in the instructions. I've barely started the 1/48 version, and had a similar reaction- lovely looking kit (except for a wee bit of short-shot on one aileron).

Hi all,

If the plastic in the Revell boxing is same as in the original ICM then the fuselage frame is really tricky to keep unbroken. I knew his problem and dispate that ended to scratch half of the framing...

Hyperscale review http://hyperscale.com/2016/reviews/kits/revell03963reviewmd_1.htm is great. I would add this missing aileron hinges and curve between fuselage top decking and fin which looks too sharp in the model when compared to pictures.

Cheers,

AaCee

I agree with AaCee's point about the brittleness of the cockpit framing (and some of the other very thin parts too - RO-82 rocket rails and landing gear in particular). I built 2 of these in their ICM version, and left the framing out altogether since I kept breaking the parts when I tried to clean them up. I'm hopeful that this is caused by ICM's styrene formulation, and if Revell are molding their own kits and not buying them from ICM, then maybe it won't be as much of a problem with the Revell boxing. That said, some of the parts are extremely thin - this is what we get when we want "scale thickness" in 1/72. If this problem does occur, I found some relief by applying a thin coat of CA to these very thin parts; a brushing-on of thin liquid cement or lacquer thinner also seemed to work. Just be careful not to melt your parts!!!

Excellent photos, BTW, Steve, now that I can finally see them (computer problems here) - I wish mine were nearly as good!

Hi folk,s with the hols due to start Friday I,ve boxed up and put away the four 1/48 builds that are in various stages of progress so I thought I would

devote a couple of sessions to start this project,I,ve assembled the main cockpit area.

The sprue's contain the cockpit framework but the instructions make no mention so I either leave it out or better still try and find the original ICM

instructions online,I,ve removed and cleaned up the major component's and they really are beautifully molded in a slightly grainy matt plastic

very similar to old Heller.

Good to see this one underway Steve and good that the molding is so nice. Good luck with your search for the instructions!

Kind regards,

Morning all,wow this thing is small after my recent 1/48 scale builds,I,ve sprayed the interior and added token harness which I,m sure is not

100% accurate but will suffice, after that the fuselage was joined and added to the wing section.
