sloegin57
Excluding Xtracolor/Xtracrylix, what does the combined brain power of Britmodeller consider to be the most accurate of all the models paints for the colours :- 30219, 34102, 34079 and 36622. Learstang
That's good to know, as I rather like the Modelmaster enamels. Regards, Jason
Haydn
I tend to go with Phoenix enamels these days.... http://www.phoenix-paints.co.uk/precision-paints/military-colours/u-s-airforce-navy-aircraft.html Cheers, Haydn.
Julien
Lifecolor looks good, I tested them out on this; Any reason you are excluding xtracolor/crylix?
sloegin57
Thank you Gentlemen for your combined wisdom. Model Master has obviously come out on top so I spent a pleasant evening trying to find a stockist that a) held them and had them in stock. So far no luck. Creative Models appear to have the entire range with the exception of the ones I require. I might try Squadron in the US later. Phoenix Precision only have 34079 and 34102 in stock so an order will be going in this morning. I am not too concerned about the Tan 30219 as I am aware of the variations that appeared throughout the world leading me to believe, rightly or wrongly, that the DoD farmed out its orders for paint into the countries where its Forces were based. I am referring to the "proper" Tan not the "Green Tan" that was prelevant in the '70's. I still have some of my beloved Pactra Tan left so if push comes to shove..... Sovereign Hobbies have a complete stock so an order will be going in after breakfast. Thanks for the heads up on the colour chart. To my eyes and on my screen your Tan does not appear to have enough Red in it but :- Caveat - see previous comments reference Tan. Thanks Julian, I had forgotten about Lifecolor. I have used their products before in their RLM series. Nice Matchbox RF-101B - hand painted ?. Looks good. One of these days your good self, Tony O'Toole or Nick Greenall are going to have to show us how you bristle mechanics manage to get such good finishes. I'll PM or email you my answer to your question later chum. I won't ask about decals as i understand that some of the Gray, White and Black are on their way (Hayden ?). I have a few of my Modeldecal codes and associated serial blocks still available. With regards to the Black/White codes, the black I can make up via the printer and the white I can make stencils up for. Once again, thank you Gentlemen - Very useful. Regards, Dennis. Rob de Bie
Excluding Xtracolor/Xtracrylix, what does the combined brain power of Britmodeller consider to be the most accurate of all the models paints for the colours :- 30219, 34102, 34079 and 36622. TIA Dennis I bought Akan set 47702, 'Greek fighters Part 2', that contains the colours for the SEA scheme (30219, 34079, 34102 and 36622) plus 30140 and 30400, for Asia Minor I believe. I painted a test piece in the SEA colours, and I really liked the result. It did scratch easily, but I solved that by using a Humbrol light grey as 'primer', which made it very tough. So, with this limited experience, I can recommend this set! Rob Edited May 19, 2016 by Rob de Bie
Fernando
Hi, all, There is a "Green" that doesn't look right, at least on my screen, on that F-101 model. It actually looks like the lighter of the two; looks too green. I couldn't be sure if it is meant to represent 34102 or 34079 In case it is 34102, then the other should be less olive and more "forest-like". Of course, it all could be a trick of my "government issue" screen. Rob de Bie, 20400 and 30140 are not that easy to get. Good find. Raven Morpheus
Try http://www.model-making.eu for Model Master paints. They have all the colours you're looking for in the acrylic range. Don't know about the enamel range. http://www.model-making.eu/products/4766-Camouflage-Gray-FS36622-Flat.html http://www.model-making.eu/products/4726-Dark-Green-FS34079-Flat.html http://www.model-making.eu/products/4734-Medium-Green-FS34102-Flat.html http://www.model-making.eu/products/4709-Dark-Tan-FS30219-Flat.html I've ordered MM paints from them a couple of times, might have even bought those exact colours as I have an Airfix 1/72 CH-53 Super Jolly Green to build. They're in Europe somewhere but seem quite reliable, and not too expensive either compared to other Model Master sources and postage to the UK is cheap also.
