Stuka! Academy Ju87G-2 in 1/72 - Finished.

Recommended Posts

So here goes group build number 4 for this year. Had a couple of weeks off since finishing my Hurricane and now itching to get going on this. The kit was a gift from my Dad, found going dirt cheap in a charity shop in Stockbridge in Edinburgh. Still had the Wonderland models price tag on it! The charity shop rummagings of my father are a mixed lot but this one looks a gem, very fine detail on the kit and decals still sealed in a plastic pouch, as opposed to absent completely or faded and yellowed to nothing. It went in the stash to be dealt with at some point, but when I saw this it was just the perfect opportunity.

Love the box art. Just the one option for one of Rudels aircraft which is fine, I'm not the greatest luftwaffe fan though I do have a thing for the Stuka.

Everything still on the sprue. Lots of tiny fiddly bits and the canopy will be a nightmare to mask for someone like me who takes absolutely no enjoyment in that. However, I have lots of time for the build and I am determined this will not get the best of me so I might even make a half decent job of it.

Stranger things have happened.

Your father is a splendid chap! Great find and very nice aircraft. The paint scheme looks stunning, the spinner spiral should be fun ;)

Looking forwards to this

Best regards

Tony

And we're off. The cockpit is all together and painted. It has some detail to it.

The last two evenings have been spent painting the pit and all the small detail parts. Should get onto some proper construction tomorrow.

Hi

Following this with interest as I have the same kit in the stash with a few add ons. Highly recommend the master turned brass gun barrels - not that cheap but removes the worry of breaking the kit ones (which I would have done for sure!)

I just completed a Hurricane IId, which has much the same problem, without any accidents so I should be fine.

Love the kit so far, not a lot done but the cockpit just fell together, has me enthused for the rest.

I've build this one (haven't got round to finishing it though) & it's a great kit.

Lovely fine detail, restrained panel lines. IMHO the guns are fine OOB, aftermarket ones don't add much to the kit ones.

Cheers

Patrick

Really fancy starting mine, but a 5 month old means modelling time is very much a thing of the past these days - not that I mind in the slightest to be honest

Great start,
I have a couple of Academy kits, The P-40M/nNand the Me 163; they seem to just fall together :) I actually really like Stukas so I hope this one is the same - I'm watching with great interest.
Those cannons on this version are something else, that would hurt :o !

Best regards
Tony

Ps - those Master barrels are everso nice, they really are..

It looks even better with a couple of coats of extra dark sea gray (closest thing I have to Luftwaffe Schwarzgrau) and some drybrushing over the top. Update at some point following school report season. Or maybe late tonight when SWMBO is asleep.

Speaking of which. So major construction done last night, cockpit into the fuselage and sealed up.

Wings all together.

All together with tailplanes on as well.

The fit of this kit is just brilliant. Here are the worst gaps.

So a little touch up around the nose and that chasm where the wing meet the rear fuselage. Loving it so far. Gear, guns and little details and it'll be time to figure out which of my available paints are closest to what's needed.

It is indeed a great kit and so far you are doing it justice.

A good and fast build!

Just one thing: the propeller should not be black, but rather Schwartzgrun ("Green black"), better translated into Humbrol 91 if you have it.

But if you prefer it black, I am quite sure the planet won't stop rotating, and that your model will be just as nice!!!

Well done!

Having just consulted the instructions I can see you are quite correct.

What is it they say about assumptions?

Thanks guys, I feel a little guilty taking any compliments, this is the first kit I've done where I can honestly say it's built itself.

Wow this is looking really good - the fit does seem excellent. A Stuka was on my list too for this GB - but the wife said, "nah, build something Russian - you have just finished something German" so I relented and started the P39 and ordered an LA-7 from MJW Models too.

Now I am really wanting to build a Stuka, lol.

Busy weekend! Not on this but everything else. Main build now finished though and I'm very happy with it. Just a couple of quick pics to update before the primer goes on, probably on thursday evening as I'm busy tomorrow.

As mentioned already, I can't recommend this kit highly enough. A couple of little touches of filler, then prime it and start the painting.

EDIT: Late night shopping weakness means the canopy mask is on its way and as I needed to bump it up for free postage I now have decals for my intended Black Mike Phantom build and a selection of Vampires, Tornadoes and a couple of other things.
