Dapol Rolling Stock Kits

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

Been building a few of the kits be Dapol recently, for my latest build check out the video below:

I've found they tend to lock up on curves because the couplings are very rigid, and causes derailments. Anyone found a solution to this?

Look forward to your replies :)

Solution easy enough.

Throw away the coupling parts that come on the kit sprues.

Buy some Parkside Dundas coupling mounting blocks. These accept standard Bachmann NEM pockets with narrow

tension-lock couplings. This allows a sprung sideways articulation as with RTR wagons.

Depending on the under floor of kits you may have to sand some depth off the Parkside Dundas mountings to get

the exact height correct. These mounting will also need a scratch built mounting pad from plasticard, I usually use

some 2.0 mm square plastic section first to lift away from the floor.

If you read several pages fore & aft of this you may find more information. http://www.newrailwaymodellers.co.uk/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=46675&start=180#p592931

There is also a potential problem as the Dapol metal wheel sets have quite shallow flanges and if your track is not FLAT,

or you end up with a twisted chassis derailing can become a problem. As a note Hornby replacement wheel sets offer a

deeper flange and can also help, but I wouldn't use them by choice. Get flat track and a flat square chassis.
