bootneck
I have just been having a trawl around on Google Earth and found, what appears to be, a WW2 or early postwar era submarine in Malta Dockyard's basin, Grand Harbour. At first I thought it was a U-Boat but I don't think any survived to be in a floating condition.Does anyone know more about this and confirm the class, better still the name, of this submarine which is afloat? JohnT
Good find. Wonder what it is. Afraid I know nowt regarding subs but the plan view makes me think of "Run Silent, Run Deep" and the USN for some bizarre reason!! RE the info below, I maybe got the wrong navy but I was right about the "show business" connection. Weird.

whitestar12chris
Hi its a type VIIC replica used in the film U-571 originally then used in other films and television, including Submerged starrring Sam Neill, where it was used to represent a pre Gato US submarine. It appeared as the RN submarine in Ghostboat starring David Jason as well. heres a link; http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2158523 All the best Chris
