Revell/Monogram B-25 Mitchell.

Recommended Posts

Hi Folk,s.this kit has sat on the shelf at my LMS for a very long time so with other projects reaching completion time I thought for

something different. The kit's origins lie back in the late seventies/early eighties when Monogram in my opinion were releasing

the best kit/s of the time with some lovely detailing, now they do tend to get overlooked by many due to the advances in tooling

and newer releases making them look pre-historic by comparison! So with that in mind let,s give it a go.I note some AM decals

are available for the J model for the RAAF for just a few quid so still unsure whether to go for that scheme or the box art scheme.

here is said box art.

For a forty year old tooling some still nice touches.

Main parts trimmed off those massive sprue gates.

Two well molded clear sprues supplied.

And a well printed decal sheet.

So that's the basics hope to get a start in a day or two, thanks for looking in.

Looking forward to this, love the b-25 since I made the airfix version as a kit. I have got hold of the Italeri 1/72 as I want to do bottoms up 2 in NMF.... Just need to find the flipping transfers for it!

In your own time Steve, your a kit building machine at the mo

Good for you,Steve - Wishing you every success and happiness with your 'B-25' build.Looking at the sprues,I notice she's even got 'weighted' tyres and the clarity of the transparencies looks as good as I found with my Voodoo.Great stuff. ;) All the best,Paul.

Good to see you put the poor kit out of it's misery - I hope it rewards you. I think these old Monogram kits still have plenty of modelling in them,

cheers

I built this kit about 10 years ago.

I don't remember having any problems with it and it looked great when done.

If I'm right, to stop it sitting on its tail you use the rear boarding hatch and a step. Quite clever if you ask me lol.

It goes together quite well, and is a good one to practice describing on too, as most of the lines are long straight runs, plus the fuselage is not too rounded. Did not realise it had been re released with new decals

You can get enough weight in the nose and engines, but it is a squeeze.

Not sure S as they were meant for the Accurate minutures kit which I,ve never seen but know is a world apart from this offering,I made a start on

the interior tonight ready for the base coat, the bulkhead/spar assembly which is a staple of most multi engine aircraft kits now must have been

a new idea when this kit was first released and worried me but a dry fit shows no issues with the fit of the fuselage halves

Morning folk,s,very little modelling time over the weekend just a few bits and bobs on a couple of GB entries,I got the base coat on this one on

Saturday morning and last night dry brushed the internals and detailed the interior just my usual fare make it look busy and a few odd decals here

and there, most of it will be lost when the fuselage sides are joined.

Ahh that takes me back. Not seeing the kit parts come together no. It was so long ago that I can't remember building it. But realising when I came to mount the side guns I'd not noticed the instruction to open up the holes for them haha.

Afternoon folks, day off so after finishing off the 109 I had a half hour building some of the sub assemblies for this build which I had removed and

cleaned up the other day,I also started work on the tail area interior adding the stowage boxes and rear gun mechanism, still no major issues the

kind of fit and dry runs you would expect from a vintage kit! Thanks for popping in.

I seem to remember that the fit of the nose was tricky, and there were big gaps between the naecels and the wings.

Definitely John,I joined them up tonight massive gap but can be easily dealt with using my favourite flexi filler! The nose is yet to come

Morning folks I,ve fixed the nacelles in place and cleaned up the joins a little white putty was required to smooth out the upper rear join otherwise

a decent fit bearing in mind John's comments on the gap which I will tackle next.I,ve painted the stowage boxes and interior fittings for the rear

fuselage too.off camera wheels, props, bombs etc are being painted.

Looking like your normal fine work on show Steve!

Rob

Thank's Rob only hope when it's time to apply glue those fuselage halves don't let me down not a strong point of the kit!

The Monogram 1/48 Bombers had an amazing amount of detail for the time the Dorsal turret is particularly nice. I remember they did their B17 with a clear side to show it off.

Nice work so far.

Agree John, they must have impressed modellers when they hit the shelves back in the seventies,I can't remember seeing them at the time or if

I did they were way out of my price range.Anyway my big worry was the fuselage assembly so after a good few dry runs and tweaking I went for

it with tubed glue rather than my usual liquid and noting the issues with the dry runs got the better join on top and leaving the poor portion at the

rear of the bomb bay to be filled when she has thoroughly dried. The bombs are in place inside the bay and I squeezed a fair size chunk of lead

under the cockpit floor which should suffice,I will put some behind the engines to be sure she doesn't tail sit.

Popped the wings and tail on for the photo, still detail painting the wheels and props.
