Yeoman1942
After 4 months I have finally completed my Centurion. the build is OOB with the addition of the individual track set from AFV Club and the Mantlet is resin from Def Com via eBay. to fit it requires some surgery which was a bit of a step in the dark for me, but I think it has turned out OK. Paint wise it is Vallejo acrylics, Sinai Grey 1973 in the most part. I applied this over a partial pre shade of track primer. I wanted to get some modulation in the colour and it seems to have come out pretty well. High lights are the grey with a hint of white added and the canvas is well... canvas. All toned down with a light grey wash and a light dusting of ultimate light dirt that i turned back into a pigment by heating for a minute in the microwave to drive off the water. I had a bit of a disaster with the chevron decal: lost 2;killed one with micro set and micro sol. I knocked up a quick mask from frog tape and sprayed it in with white. not the most complex of shapes, but it was a first fro me. Given how it turned out I will definitely do it again . I rushed a bit towards the end to hit a self imposed dead line and will need to sort out the tide marks on the side skirts, but over all I am pretty happy with the way this turned out. Big thanks to Plastix and Shermaniac for their inspirational builds and the tip about saving the track links Edited May 13, 2016 by Yeoman1942
colin
Very nice, the resin mantlet covers looks very nice, the drape is very convincing, far better than AFV own
Yeoman1942
Thanks Colin. It was real heart in mouth stuff when I took the saw to the turret. So I'm chuffed the mantlet turned out well. It took a few canvas washes over the base IDF grey and a targeted light grey to add depth. The cast is really good, I will buy from them again event though they are in Korea

Ratch
Looks good, I especially like the mantlet. Is it 35th?
Yeoman1942
Thanks Ratch. Yes mantlet is 1/35. I got it from eBay in about a week. As a resin virgin I was a bit nervous but the end result was worth it.
TomCZ
Nice Shot Kal ! Pics in dark look much better !
Yeoman1942
Thanks Tom. I was playing around with the lighting and the flash. I agree the darker look better, the flash photos wash a lot of the colour out. Still more to learn, but fun none the less.
PlaStix
That turned out beautifully! Very impressive build and finish. I think you did the right thing using the resin mantlet cover rather than the AFV Club version - yours does look much better! Kind regards, Stix
Yeoman1942
Thanks Stix, really appreciate the compliment, your RAAC build gave me a load of tips that I have tried to put to good use. The mantlet must have been fate as I bought it thinking it was the AFV Club version. Thanks again Yeoman

Yeoman1942
Thanks Gaz. I 'm still learning, but it may give you some ideas on effects you can get without too much effort or kit. Plastix and Shermaniac have some crackers that taught me a lot Yeoman
