caterhamnut
Couldn't resist. Wanted to, but I also really wanted to get an F1 car from this era, and missed the 1/20 scale. DarnAnyway - this won't be quick, as I am already in the middle of other builds - but as this kit has just been released, I figured some may be interested to see the kit in more detail. So although I don't want to become someone who posts pictures of the 'unboxing' of a set of new headphones or something, the first few posts will indeed be the 'unboxing' of this kit!-taken at Goodwood FofS a few years back...Usual MFH instruction booklet - quite a few pages. Some very nice PE - but I wish they were the ones mounted on some sort of rubber/plastic backing and didn't have the little joining pieces of metal to file off - these are tiny, but there are a hell of a lot of them - especially for that grill!Decals......more to follolw. Ran out of time.
Borez
Nice, those PE parts look intense. Is that for the front grill?Edit: Actually you've already answered that in the thread. Edited April 29, 2016 by Borez
vontrips
Just lost my massive reply to you! Off to AutoItalia tomorrow...why, oh why??? Should be old and wise enough to avoid Italian rustbuckets by now! Will try to grab pics of anything period and horselike/cloverlike for you. ;-) PS. That grill will look fab. The famous 1/8th Auto Union model had the same construction, but with lightening holes in the ribs...looked gorgeous! caterhamnut
Enjoy the show! If they did some Auto Unions or Silver Arrows, I'd be broke...it would be fantastic to see those in 1/12... Right- the bits. And right away, I'm disappointed! There are lots of very thin pipes and rods in this kit - bundled under cling-film! Come on MFH - for this price, get some better packaging!!! grrrrrrrrr I got a $120 Italieri 1/12 Fiat 806 Grand Prix, and they can managed to supply small parts in a plastic box...sure, they make more of them - but the MFH is $$$! Annnnnyway...bags of bits... Lots and lots of metal = lots of cleaning and finishing. May be the time to invest in one of those cleaning tub things! castings look very nice - a little bit of flash around, and some prominent split lines which are pretty visible on some of the smaller round-section parts - still, these multi-media kits always need extra work... ...lots of rivets to maybe drill out. Maybe. Lots of prime candidates for replacing cast nuts and bolts... Drum brake cooling fins... And now the resin parts... Engine block, components and seat - which will be covered with fabric. Bodywork consists of nose cone, rear 'cone', bonnet and side panels... In that last shot you can see a wheel - these are beautifully made - turned ali, ready for threading the spokes - and rubber tyres complete with Pirelli logo... I've popped the tyres on the rims just for these photos - they may be on the wrong way round... ...very nice. Usual bag of wires, rivets, cables and fittings. And these tiny guys - I'm guessing these are the needles on the dash dials. Belly pan and half the chassis... ...and that is about it! Looking at pictures of the 1/20 models, for me the highlight is the chassis. It quite simply looks beautiful all exposed. I am seriously considering doing a cut-away model - or rather a model that has the bodywork removed on one half (longitudinally that is) On this car more than any other is seems criminal to hide the chassis, engine and fittings.. That is it for now. I think it will look stunning.
larchiefeng
I thought about getting this kit but, I stopped by reminding myself that I still had multiple Pochers to build and the same 917 that you're building as well as the 1/12 Ferrari 330 P4. So, I'll just have to content with watching you build this one. I do have one question about the wire wheels though. Are the wire spokes the same as the 250 GTO that come in long lengths of wire that has to be cut and bent to shape?
rjfk2002
Wow that is a great looking kit. Thanks for sharing all the unboxing pics. The magnetic polisher may be a very wise investment given all that white metal. I look forward to when you start building this one'

I too had to re-pack parts in small zipp-lock bags. Edited May 6, 2016 by Warboy
Hugh Jampton
Looking on in awe, a beautiful looking kit for a beautiful car. Not my era and well above my level of modelling but will be keeping an eye on this thread with envy. Regards John

ct_mazi
Do you have to remove the cover to see the engine or can it be propped in the open position?
Mike
I'm not a car modeller, but I can appreciate the artistry of this... mighty impressive, although I agree it looks a bit "dumped" in the packaging.
Tzulscha
Ooh! Shiny! I'd love to have a go at this one. However since I have a squillion other things to build and far less time than I'd like, I shall live vicariously through you. So...is it done yet? Sorry.
