Airbus collision "not a drone"

The object which struck an Airbus on the approach to Heathrow on 17 April is no longer thought to have been a drone, the government says.

<Removed - bad taste>

But the question is - if it wasn't a drone, what was it?

Don't forget:- they ARE out there :rolleyes:

It's only a matter of time. ATC were warning of drone activity on the approach to Rwy 28 at Dublin yesterday. We then just missed the remains of a balloon at about 4000 ft on the way into Heathrow.

That was exactly my response, if it wasn't a drone then WHAT WAS IT?

My next question is, who decided it was a drone in the first place and on what evidence?

In the news reports they stated that the Pilot reported it as a drone, he probably got a very brief visual of it but enough to see it wasn't a bird.

Can someone say "over-reaction"? Or is that unfair to the pilot?

We've all been made so paranoid about drones and lasers flying into LHR that it was possibly a reasonable assumption in the current climate.

That said - it shouldn't have been blown all over the media before the facts were confirmed.
