Manipled Mutineer
Since my Mosquito build has temporarily stalled, I thought that I would give something a little more straightforward a go. This is a 1/72 Airfix new tool Hawker Hurricane Mk 1 made up as YB-J "Flying Popeye" of 17 Sqn, RAF Debden, 1940. Generic Decals were Airfix (the large fuselage roundels being from Nicolson's GN-A from the VC Icons boxing) whilst YB-J, etc were from the old Esci set, the whole brush painted in Humbrol acrylics. TheBaron
Nicely controlled brush work on that camo! Like it. Cheers, Tony
Manipled Mutineer
Thanks Tony, much obliged, especially as painting is one of my less favoured bits of the whole process!
Luis Alfonso
Hi Friend: Congratulations for this wonderful build. Without a doubt, say what people say, those once so-so, then old, then venerable and even now archaic ESCI decals sheets are very useful for many nice modern and wonderful builds. Thank you very much for sharing!! Cheers, Luis Alfonso
Manipled Mutineer
Many thanks, Luis, for your kind comments. I do like the Esci sheets very much for the sake of the interesting aircraft profiled in them. Here's a previous build drawn from the same sheet, this time a Hurricane IIc:

YES!!! you are rigth with what you said!!! Without a doubt for sure I bet your nice shelves are full of many nice memories for me, those ESCI sets in truth were full of a lot of action and pleasure for a simple and not so complicated builds, and is nice to enjoy so many nice builds as yours here. I remember made all many birds using those decals and have being fortunate to invest a little sum of money to have bought two or three of some, as in the cases of some planes like FW Ta 152H, Phantoms, Skyhawks,OV 10, Fiat G 91 and others that survive to be built, unfortunately with this plane was not the case but hope one day one sheet crosses in front of me and have a go. Thank you very much for sharing, and hope to watch many more ESCI decal Sheet builds from your nice collection!!! BTW If you haven't had published before this nice bird, do that, is refreshing to enjoy builds like yours!!! I have went there and watched the magnificent job you have done with the Revell kit, and think I also shared the nice love to rescue part built planes like you to do something nice!!! johnny jaguar and the jets
Great hairy stick painting skills!
Manipled Mutineer
Many thanks both. I did find it satisfying, Luis, to be able to rescue that part-built kit: I also enjoy going over my own old builds and improving then where possible. Johnny - I'm glad you approve of the product of my hairy stick work! I did take some care over the finish, although I know there were some areas where I can improve.
Stew Dapple
Nice work there MM It's a shame there aren't more photographs of 17 Squadron aircraft from 1940, they seemed to have a penchant for nose-art... I've seen the eagle/dagger design on the one flown by 'Birdy' Bird-Wilson and your one flown by a (P/O?) Stevens, but I'd bet they weren't the only examples... Anyway very nice job on yours mate Cheers, Stew
johnd
May I ask about the ESCI transfers? What's the issue with them, accuracy or ease of use? Ta, John. Great Hurricane, BTW.
stevej60
Excellent scheme and a cracking little build too!
Manipled Mutineer
Many thanks for the compliments - I did enjoy this build! John - I've had no particular issues with the Esci decals the two times I've used them: they seem good for their vintage although prone to yellowing (as might be expected given their age). I also don't entirely like the way they did their fin flashes on the Hurricane/Kittyhawk sets I have - these seem a little out of register, but since I don't use their flashes this isn't a problem for me. The only other issue you might find is with accuracy - some of the schemes they give are seen as suspect (eg AK-G in the same set), but they probably represented the best sources that were available 30-odd years ago. I hope this helps.
stevehnz
Nicely done, a lot to like in that scheme too. Steve.
