Dads203
Mud time, what you see in terms of pigments for the first round plus plaster, silver sand , static grass, and mineral spirit. Lower hull and under the sponsons first. Stay tuned Dan
Dads203
And applied Next pass will be a darker pigment once this has dried Dan
Sgt.Squarehead
Mucktastic. Watching with interest as I'm contemplating a (somewhat) similar process with my T-35.
Dads203
2nd pass same mixture of items, this coat is to give texture, I must admit I didn't use enough fine sand so I couldn't get the texture right, I've added more static grass to this mix. You can see the texture building now . I'm going for the dry caked on look so paint will get used to change the tones and colours. Use an old brush for this as well Dan
Dads203
Now its drying back, time to have some fun. Leaking torsion bar housing ? Mig oil effects and black pigment. Cheers Dan
Dads203
Tonight's addition whilst I wait for the pigments to dry The Anti Aircraft / Anti Personnel MG-42 machine gun. The ammo belt is the best I can do, it doesn't quite hang right Cheers Dan
Sgt.Squarehead
Always thought the AAMG mount on the Jagdtiger showed clear hints of both 'afterthought' and 'desperation'.....But you've still managed to make a miniature masterpiece out of it!

I reckon you would need massive balls or to be completely shedded on Germany's finest Schnapps to stand on the back of the JT and take on ground troops in any numbers, its rather exposed for my liking. Richard E
This is always the point when I'm always amazed that you start covering you hard work with "mud" - looking very good though ! Gremlin56
Beautiful Dan, looking really good here. Getting ammo belts to hang in a natural fashion is always difficult, you nailed it here though.
HL-10
A thoroughly impressive build! I love the weathering effects, from the chips & scrapes to the mud splatter. The attention to detail, such as the jacking block, and the ammunition on the MG42 just brings the whole thing to life. Outstanding modelling skills!
Dads203
Cheers guys So the pigments have dried, this was a bit of worrying time for me as you don't know how they will look once dry, I opened the door to the modelling room this morning and this is what I found , I reckon I can work with it Still got a way to go yet but with the road wheels and tracks on I think it will look good. Dads203
Thank you guys, Frank you are totally correct mate, one clean pair of green coveralls and 2 minutes just looking at a tank on the tank park = dirty coveralls and dermatitis So weathering up the suspension, not going to see this once the wheels are added but hey what the heck. More later folks Dan
Dads203
Couldn't resist in popping on one track just to see, Erm well not much of the mud Never mind it was good practice. Anyone building this kit or the Tamiya kit then a top tip is to mask up the wheel axels.. as me why I know this Needless to say I didn't and the getting the road wheels on will be a royal pain. Cheers for looking again Dan
FrancisGL
Phew, what a session of mud, I have to try to do something similar soon, very good ..., cheers Dan Edited September 23, 2016 by FrancisGL
Dads203
Thank you Francis buddy Just starting on the track guards, first one done. I'm not fitting all of them but this will be the first one, turned out well I think. Dan
Dads203
A couple more now done, these will get added last to the build. Cheers for looking Dan
Sgt.Squarehead
Superb.....While you can't see much of the mud, what you can see has a great texture and the contrasting colours look convincingly 'wet & dry'.
Dads203
Just planning which track guards to leave off, the last one on this side is not going to be used so I have started weathering up the area that will be seen. It's a bit of practice for the other areas and not to bad at painting a semi straight line after 2 glasses of Yellow Tail Merlot .. Cheers for looking Dan
Dads203
One side of the skirts have been painted, excuse the lolly pop stick its just to keep the spacing. Gives you the idea. As mentioned these are last items to get glued, tracks need to be weathered up and fixed permanent yet. Cheers for looking Dan
Dads203
Almost forgot the bolts for the track hangers, I'll have to add all of these to the guards as well Resin 0.65 bolts from Calibre 35. Right folks, that's me for the night, thanks for tuning in Regards Dan Almost forgot the bolts for the track hangers, I'll have to add all of these to the guards as well Resin 0.65 bolts from Calibre 35.
