Latinbear
This article from Military.com about the effect of budget cuts on the US Marine Corp air fleets echoes what we've seen with other air forces and their lack of money and personnel. http://www.military.com/daily-news/2016/04/15/budget-cuts-leaving-marine-corps-aircraft-grounded.html
Truro Model Builder
It could be described as a perfect storm, with a combination of defence cuts, sequestration, ongoing commitments and projects such as the F-35 sucking up a lot of funds, to say nothing of present equipment being thrashed to bits in the sandbox and needing extensive maintenance. Not good. Not good at all.
Latinbear
Agreed. When I read figures like $1trn for the cost of the Iraq war not to mention Afghanistan then it really does bring home the price of conducting a modern war thousands of miles from home and this is from the richest nation on the planet. Robin-42
If you try to follow the money in the US military it's like following the rabbit down the hole, but worse. The money is there, it just does laps of inefficiency. Just look up the Air Guard C130 fiasco where individual congressmen can block retirements of individual H models unless they get a replacement J for their local pet squadron. Or look up new M1 tanks the Army doesn't want. Or ask any of your local serviceman who have done an exchange tour in the Pentagon. It makes Alice's Wonderland look like the place where the sane people live.
