Airfix 1/76 Panzer VI King Tiger

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

Decided to build my second tank as well as experiment with terrain.

This build was primarily an excercise in armor weathering and terrain generation. Thus historical accuracy was not high on the priority list.

Built OOB, only additional detail added was dents and a loose panel in the side-skirts, and drilling out of the exhaust vents.

And here's my first attempt at a tank back in 2014

I found the following links invaluable for weathering the King Tiger:

Your comments and constructive critiques are welcome!

Thanks for watching! :)

Cheers,

Alex.

That is a very impressive King Tiger and the weathering looks amazing for saying it's on such a small kit. The base looks great too and speaking of of bases - might you be interested in taking part in the Vignette Group Build which starts on 25th June? With your skills it may be right up your street! Details can be found here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234975282-vignette-group-build/

Kind regards,

Stix

That sounds interesting! I've signed up :)

Fabulous work Alex, it certainly looks bigger than its' true scale, and I really didn't think it was only 1:76 at first glance?!!

Like the way you've done the camouflage, very nice indeed. :Tasty::thumbsup:

Kev :)

Thanks Kevin! I skimped on the camo as I wanted to get straight to weathering. Good to know that it passes the bar :D

A masterpiece in small scale! Well done!

What did you use for lighting, might I ask?

Thanks Kuro! The scene was shot using natural light. Using a tripod for the camera, I placed the model on a sheet of white paper (which curved upwards to above the frame in the background), and stood in the way of the light coming in from the window (on screen right) to eliminate harsh highlights. The light reflected off the white walls of the room giving it a more balanced lighting. I set up a sheet of styrene to act as a reflector off-screen to the left of the image, filling in the shadows.
