PlaStix
Well I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my build of this kit for the Starter Set Group Build. If you haven't checked out this GB - it's in the Group Build section - so make sure you take a look - there are amazing builds and they have all been made and painted with the tube of glue, brush and pots of paints supplied! Yes the glue is a bit on the thick side, the paints a bit.....erm....odd and everyone had to manage with just basic tools. Some photos of the finished Cromwell: It is a great little kit - the only real issue being some of the attachment points to the sprues which are a little on the large side. I can even say that it makes up and paints well with the just the stuff in/on the box - I even found the glue reasonably good to work with!! The tracks - being pre-formed - work beautifully. Thoroughly recommended! Even the decals work well although, due to being applied on a matt surface, they are still quite evident and a bit of silvering has occured here and there. The star took a bit of work with some very hot water, but it went on over the raised detail much better than expected. There are a couple of creases in it but for the most part it's not bad for saying. Ozzy
Nice work Stix, I've got one of these in my stash to build with my daughter. However it will probably be pink like the rest.

Vince, I didn't know how many shades of pink tamiya do.I think they do a few rattle-can versions including iridescent pink/gold, fluorescent and sparkling anodised aluminium! I think your daughter's Cromwell would look excellent in a combination of these Ozzy!Lol,years ago i bought my son a Subaru kit to build together and guess what, everything after that was 'Subaru Blue'....Lovely looking build Stix ...Thank you Vince. GREG DESTEC
I like it Stix. Even better knowing you used those little paint pots that come in the starter kits. Any i have opened look like white glue with dye! I'm guessing you had to water them down a lot? As for tube glue, i use that all the time seeing its what i was used to when i was a kid. Creature of habit me

PlaStix
Turned out another winner Stix, superb build especially given the limited tools etc. Thank you very much Steve. I really enjoyed building this - it was the second I've made - it's a great little kit and really fun even with the limited tools and the supplied paints, glue and brush. Lol,on Evo's or the odd Cossie Escort and Sapphire RS yep but there's limits ie Spitfires (somethings are sacred).... I'm sure it goes with everything!! I like it Stix. Even better knowing you used those little paint pots that come in the starter kits. Any i have opened look like white glue with dye! I'm guessing you had to water them down a lot? As for tube glue, i use that all the time seeing its what i was used to when i was a kid. Creature of habit me Thank you very much Greg. Yes the paints don't look great when they are first opened. But with a lot of thorough stirring (I ended up using a screwdriver!!) and some thinning with water they apply reasonably well. Not as good as normal Humbrol paints for some reason but okay. And I got used to the glue but I don't think I'd use it all the time. I found a way of working with it just applying small blobs here and there. My main problem with it was that it could get a bit 'stringy' if the parts had to be pulled apart for re-positioning. These stringy bits always ended up going across and getting stuck to small details! Looks great - and what a great idea for a group build! Thank you very much kwality8. Yes it was a great idea for a GB and if one happens again I will definitely take part! very good build, good crisp paint finish. Thank you too Fredben for your kind comments. Getting the paint to look as it does took a lot more work than when I use my usual paints and brushes but I was quite happy with it eventually. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to comment. Kind regards, Stix Edited April 18, 2016 by PlaStix
Yeoman1942
Great build Stix it takes real skill to get that finish with basic tools and equipments. That GB looks like the modelling equivalent of single type motor sport. The cars (kits and tools in this case) are the same so it's all down to the skill of the drive. I'll definitely sign up for the next one
