"USAF F-22 Raptors have returned to Europe

The U.S. Air Force has deployed F-22 Raptors, Airmen and associated equipment to Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, April 11, to conduct air training with other Europe-based aircraft.

The F-22s are deployed from the 95th Fighter Squadron at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., and will continue training in Europe until May.

The 5th generation, multi-role fighter aircraft will also forward deploy from the U.K. to NATO bases to maximize training opportunities, affirm enduring commitments to NATO allies, and deter any actions that destabilize regional security.

The training marks the second time the U.S. European Command has hosted a deployment of F-22 aircraft in the EUCOM and U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa area of responsibility."

Four arrived yesterday, with a strong rumour of four more arriving today.

Now, Lakenheath F-15's do occasionally come down Cornwall way on a round the coast sight seeing sortie..... Is it too much to hope that an F-22 may be inclined to do the same.......?

Great. Thanks for sharing the info and the pics. Will have to get over there and try and get some photos for myself. F-22, strangely ridiculous looking, ugly and elegant at the same time.

I'd love to do a model of one, but all those various shades of grey, and the panel's, difficult to do it justice in 1/72.

Maybe a trip to the 'heath will inspire me (if I see anything).

Just got back from Mildenhall. Was on my way to Lakenheath to see the Raptors and thought I would just have a quick look on the way past. Turned out to be fortuitous in a way, apparently the runway at Lakenheath was closed due to an F-15 taking the arrester cable. Seven F-15's had diverted in and two lovely F-22's were also with them. I hung about for a few hours and saw the two Raptor's depart.

Also saw my first Mildenhall Ospreys, as four were parked out on the ramp, no doubt waiting for this evenings activities.

I will try and get back again soon, and hopefully take some pictures.

Well, I did get back again, and I took some photo's. It was a very slow day, nothing happened for about three hours. I even nodded off in the car for a bit. Cursing my luck; then it all got a bit lively. A Fourteen ship F-15E launch, accompanied by 6 F-22A Raptors.

My afternoon at Lakenheath, hope you like 'em.

(I have moved the rest of the photos to the Aircraft Photography section, which I thought might be more appropriate)

I will post a few F-15 pic's in a bit.

Cheers.

Anyone know when they will be leaving?

Might like to try and squeeze another trip in.

I have seen conflicting dates mid May, July, I wish someone could pin it down I'm going to visit my parents next Wens for a few days and me and dad want to go and take a look as he is not to far from the base.
