. . . someones nicked your bricks :D  One small point about the CIBIE logos, I think that the white bits in the 'B' & 'E' should be yellow.

Re the handbrake, here is a period shot of FEV 1H, which may or may not apply to your car, and could be completely useless?

Yeah yeah - and you're right about the yellow (dang - didn't spot that!!), maybe a bit of yellow decal could fix that or I just live with it.

And as for period photo - did they travel back in time in the Cossie??!! B)

It's coming together beautifully, absolutely love this, top job ,brings back memories of sutton park, and the rac rally a bit later than the escorts era,but we had tony pond in the metro 6r4,the audi's and the Peugeot t16 ,if you ever went to one wasn't it an awsome spectacle.

Keith, I forgot to mention that Belkits very thoughtfully supply some strips of black decal to replicate 'Tony's tapes'.

And thank you, Glynn, for the kind comments. While I watched the Mk 1 on the tele at Croft and whatever coverage of the rallying was on, I never got to see them live on the RAC - I was an impoverished youf without any independent means of travel at the time. As a student, I did my first rally as a navigator (University of Swansea MC's Crefft Rally in 1977) and loved it. When I started working, I met a chap who had been at school at the same time and he was building a beautiful Mini for rallying. It transpired he was a member of Tavern Motor Club in Bristol. I joined the following Monday and was out marshalling and navigating almost immediately. They are a quite prestigious club running several events and running stages for other clubs. We also got to run stages on the RAC and I vividly recall the Mk 2s. And I was still a member when the mighty RS200 thundered through Ashton Park! Great days indeed.

Well I did say.."could be completely useless"!  But well spotted. I think it crept into the wrong file, instead of 'Days of Yore' it should have been filed under 'Yesteryear'

My humble apologies.:sorry:

Bl00dy 'ell - I was Course Closing car on that!! UCSMC was my motor club at the time I was in Swansea Uni & I was on the organising commitee for the 75,76 & 77 events! Small world...!!

Only  'proper' works Mk 1's I saw were the Group 1 RS2000's entered by Ford for Roger Clarke & Gerry Marshall on the 74 Avon Tour of Britain. If you can call a Group 1 RS2 a proper works car! Saw many ex-works & privateer works supported Mk 1's on mid -late 70's RAC's, Welsh Internationals etc.

Keith

Ps - Tony's tapes show just how closely I've looked at the Belkits decals - never noticed them!!

Surely the second rear caliper would be for the handbrake Keith? Still not sure whether they had the 2 or just 1 that did both?

Ashley

You could well be right Ashley. Only one on all of mine that I recall, & more than one had fly off handbrakes, and I 'think' a couple were hydraulic (40 odd year old memories are fading!) But then, none of them were ex-works cars!

Dave Adams was Clerk of the Course - still see him! Those RS2s were good enough for me - nice to see a narrow Escort for a change!

I think they're tapes - not shown on the placement diagram unless hidden as a note somewhere.

Ooops, Sorry Keith, didn't see! I don't recall what Dave had exactly at the time but I'm pretty sure he did Course Closing in a Lotus Cortina MkII.

I've take a few days out recently for a couple of work commitments and also have a massive reorganisation of my shed - and I'm only half way through that.

Towards the end of last week, I attached my homemade boot clips. There's a bad image of one a few posts back. The kit clip is very flat and too short. I recreated them by cutting out the middle third of the etch on the straight part and slightly bent the 'wingnut' to end up with the hook on the boot lid. I wound some 5 amp fuse wire around itself to replicate the spring and attached the third of the cut clip with the hole to one end. Then end with the hole was lightly tacked over the hook on the lid - once dry, I cut another end of the spare kit's clips and attached them to the body with the lug attached to the spring:

Escort-MkI-Boot-Clips-1

I then set about adding cables to the front driving lamps and then mounting a couple so that they had a few days to set firm before attaching the bottom pair:

Escort-MkI-Lamps-4

I quite liked the ambience of the pics so took a couple more. They are a little less harsh than the 'studio' images posted before so that the edges of the window mouldings are less conspicuous and the gloss sheen less burnt out.

Escort-MkI-Lamps-5

The cables from the lamps are yet to be passed through the bodywork.

Next project will be the wing badges - the decals aren't the same size as the etch supplied so there's a bit more scratching to be done!

Hmmm, only MkII Lotus I recall was Mike's (& I can't remember his surname, but he was also known as Bruce for some reason!) - a lovely red with black interior machine - stunning, very quick car! If he did do course closing that year, I must have done it in 76. And confession time - whatever year it was, I only ended up navving on course closing, as I'd severely re-arranged the front end of my Avenger Tiger in an RTA a couple of days before the event...I was supposed to have been doing course opening!!

Anyway, your Escort - it is simply fantastic! I know it's an old cliche, but if it weren't for the background I'd swear you were working on a 1:1 replica of LVX - or even the genuine article!

Really fabulous work Nick!

That's timely. I've been looking at these recently and only found a couple of Revell ones on eBay for around £100.

As an aside, have you seen the standard 1/24 diecast Escort Mk1's available? They appear to be Chinese made, another eBay offering.

Liking the extra details you keep adding Nick. You've started me on the slippery slope of extra detailing too - more on this story later.

Think these were originally the ones issued by quattroroute, with an Italian magazine part work. Once found a basket ful of them in a model shop in Poole being cleared at a fiver each. For some reason I thought buying three of them was enough....!! :banghead::D

Not sure I can say, Keith. ;)

Ashleigh, your bank balance should remain healthy - you could probably get four new ones for the cost of one old one off eBay if the Transit prices are anything to go by!

Thanks, Mark. And apologies, Mark. As Keith says, the diecasts were originally from Quattroruote, an Italian magazine that did a very broad range of cars including RS Cosworths and a Capri. They all look very good. White Box was the first reincarnation I saw in yellow with Welly doing them as well. I've also seen a 'Tawny' coloured version. All of them are in 1300GT guise with square headlamps, smaller front wheel arches, chrome trim around the wheel arches and sills, 'foreign' indicators on the front wings and are left hand drive.

A fair point, although the ESCI original I have, I paid well less than what a brand new belkits kit costs. So that lessens the kick in the nuts some people will be feeling when they come out lol.

But also if you then factor in the costs of decal sets, etch sets and transkits it all starts to mount up lol.

Tbf Keith I think you priced stuff fairly. I certainly wouldn't have brought it had it been much more. I've always stopped myself getting caught up in the eBay prices because of this very situation of them being released again lol.

But I did see a couple escorts for sale at Telford for the 100 mark 😮
