Revell 1/72 Halifax Mk I/II. Small update 15 May.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

My Spitfire build is coming to an end so its time to think about my next project. I do have a Hurricane,Typhoon and Jet Provost to finish but I've wanted to build a Halifax for a long time now so I thought sod it, lets go for it!

I've chosen the Revell offering as my starting point, I know it has its issues (hence the correction set from AML) but hopefully I should be able to produce a decent model to add to my small collection.

Here's an overall shot of the Kit and after market...

Thanks for looking and see you soon.

Good luck, I will be watching. I've got the AML set too for mine but it's differently packed; mine contains new props & radiators etc but yours seems like it may contain more? Be interested to see the contents.

Gents

Photos of what you get in the box (no brilliant pictures I'm affraid)

As you can see you get a set of decals, new wheels, radiator scoops, props, prop hubs and air scoops.

Thanks. An interesting set of Special Duties squadron markings, but it does look as thought the yellow is slightly offset. This is so common that I wish more companies would follow Hasegawa and print them separately. Otherwise much as the Freightdog set, making it look a lot better without addressing the causes. But no tailwheel...

Hi everyone

A small update. I've started to add some of the resin from AML to my Halifax and I have to say so far its gone very well. The overall fit of the kit itself has been excellent and the resin has also fitted very well with minimum clean up being required...

I'll need to fill the small gaps but that really shouldn't be a real issue.

Well that's that.

Hi everyone

Just a quick update. I've made a start on the fuselage interior, I'm using elements from the Eduard detail set but I'm not going to waste too much time detailing anything aft of the flight engineers position as it just wont be seen..

I've also primed the wings to highlight the amount of work that needs to be done on blending in the resin after market and although there is work to be done its not huge.

Cheers

Hi everyone

A small update for you. I've been concentrating on the wings and engine pods over the past few days and I can report that the resin from AML fits beautifully and the general fit of the kit has been excellent...although the instructions are a joke!

I've sprayed the camo on the wings using my new favourite method of Friskfilm and Gyro cutter and I used Montex masks for the roudels.

Now to concentrate on the gun turrets as I understand these can be a challenge to fit into the fuselage..

I bought myself a very cheap pair of scalloped scissors from Hobby Craft in Truro the results aren't too bad. I do have some tidying up of paint and seam's though.

Hi everyone

I'm still plugging away at this one. I've sprayed the roundels and fin flashes and I did spray the squadron codes but in my haste I didn't realise that they were wrong for the plane I was building so I used the codes supplied by AML in the upgrade set and I have to say that they worked very well....

....overall I'm very happy with how this is turning out, I've still a heck of a long way to go but it's getting there. And having seen what can be achieved with the kit (Elgers rather brilliant build) http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234998720-halifax-hx333-np-j-revell-172-the-groningen-connection-ft-percy-the-peguin/ I'm keen to get her finished.

Cheers
