Another day, another model. smile.gif

I've not done any Russian birds before, so this will be new for me.

I'm aware of the kits shape issues, but I'm not really that bothered by them, so will be building OOB.

On to the pictures. smile.gif

Looking forward to playing with this one, as it will give me an opportunity to properly try out the AKAH paints I bought at SMW two years ago! smile.gif

Good hunting!

Look forward to this, are you adding the Quickboost resin nosecone? It really does improve the shape over the kit part.

Hey Muzz... I did mention this in my original post.... I am aware of the issue, but am not in a position to be able to afford AM parts for any of my kits, due to not working following a mild stroke... My build will be OOB

Duh! Sorry I missed that, too busy looking at you're photo's, that'll teach me to read the post properly.

good choice!

far too few Flankers around!

You could try to sand the nosecone to shape yourself, improves the look tremendously!

here is a link to the shape differences:

UPDATE 01

Ok... so a little progress to report on this one...

Akan paints are OK, but for a supposed colour matched to factory paints.... hmmmm, not convinced...

Cockpit greeblies all painted in Akan73069 - Grey dark blue, which clearly states on the bottle to be used for faded aircraft cabins... specifically on the Su27, Su30, Su32, Su33, Su34, Su35, Su37 & Su39... Looks too dark to me... so I bleached the bottle with a drop or three of Akan 73146 - White.... Still not convinced....

Maybe should have bought the Mr. Paint range instead?

Cockpit greeblies painted with my attenuated cabin blue-grey

Bang seats painted and installed also... suddenly, the cockpit just jumped out of my hand and into the fuselage... honest occifer... biggrin.gif

Quite pleased with how the instrument panels came out though. I used some Darkstar inks to fill in the dials, then drybrushed with very thin XF-85. The CRT had a coat of XF16 - flat aluminium before receiving a dollop of X25 Clear green

In several places, there are little nipples (for want of a better description), these have been cut off, sanded flush and polished, and where necessary, rescribed also... frown.gif I can only imagine that these are artifacts of the injection mould not letting go of the sprue?

Wont be updating this one for a while, as I will be starting another project. Dan Jones, (who only lives 5 minutes away) and I are doing a buddy build on a pair of Revell Hawker Hunter FGA.9's. I'm unsure about Dan's build, but mine has a nice AM cockpit, and AM decals to go in.... Will start up another thread with the details tomorrow, when Dan is here.

Good choice.

Always good to see another Flanker.

Don`t glue the nose so you can replace later ;)

OK - update time :)

Kinda got carried away making the fuselage and intakes, so forgot to take progress shots.... The fuselage went together with few issues, with the notable exception of the rear of the fuselage, which has been well documented in other builds. The intakes and engine nacelles were a bit fiddly.

I looked, but I couldn't find any firm references as to which colour these are painted internally. On another site to which I subscribe, one builder does it in a grey for his build, where as another does white for his..... I went with XF20... :D

On to the photos...

OK... so a bit more done on this one... I don't seem to be as motivated to do this one as I was with the F100... rolleyes.gif

I know it's not fair to draw comparisons on kits, as they all have their flaws.... The Trumpeter F100 literally fell together after giving the box a shake.... this Academy kit... not so much. It's certainly making my arm ache with all the sanding I've had to do on the intakes, and rear of the fuselage... and I'm STILL not 100% happy with the filling job.

I am, however, very happy with the re-scribing I've had to do...

It is looking great.

You did a very good job with the intakes, I think is the worst part of the kit.

Look forward to see some paint on.
