Mmarchal
Hi, I really enjoy build reviews, so I am going to try and do one myself. On the bench is the WNW Snipe, the late version. One of the build options is a Snipe in Russian service, named Nelly. Looks cool to me, so that's what we're going for. I decided to use a little bit of aftermarket, Seat belts from HGW, Barracuda seat and I found suitably sized masks for the insignia from Maketar. (I prefer masks over decals for the larger insignias) I am a slow builder, so there'll only be updated pics every couple of weeks. These are the first pics, the kit is superb, maybe even better than the previous one I build, the Pfalz DIII. Next up, wire the engine, some internal rigging and close the fuselage.
Bigdave22014
Looks very good so far, and that seat looks very impressive on its own! Edited March 20, 2016 by Bigdave22014
Mmarchal
The Bentley wired up. I may weather her some more, but the Snipe's I have seen had relatively clean engines. Bit of work on the fuselage, and then its time to close the fuselage and start painting. Maybe this coming Easter weekend if I can get my hands on the paint I need. I've decide to mix some Tamiya colours for the green used in the scheme. As usual I'll start with the ImodelKit app, mix till I get the result I want and I'll go from there. The app is quite cool and helpful really. I have used it lots and although not perfect, it does tend to get you close. We'll see.
Mmarchal
There we go, closed up. Let's put some colour on next.
Mmarchal
Nelly is getting a prop. Don't zoom in too much or you'll get bombarded by all the little mistakes. The camera is unforgiving.

Mark
I'm doing the same kit and loving every moment! You've done a superb job on 'Nelly' and I'll be following this for some tips on the rigging!
Mmarchal
Hi Mark, I'll use the elastic ezwire I bought from the WNW website and tubing from bobs buckles website to simulate turnbuckles. Worked ok for the Pfalz, so I'll try it again. Bit more rigging to do on this one though....gonne take a bit of time.

Sergey
Very neat work, the only remark, stars on the plane were red.
Mmarchal
Hi Sergey, the Stars were, are subject to lots of discussion, WNW has them as black, there's a fair bit of debate in various other sources. I don't think there is any proof either way. I like the black more, so decided to stick with black. But you could be correct.
Sergey
We, too, is a long-standing dispute, but in the picture is very difficult to see the stars on the wings, if they were black in the picture looked brighter as the ace of spades on the side of the fuselage, I personally also like the black color, it is unusual, leave black!
Mmarchal
Decals on, next up are the wings. Nice and slow, that's the way I enjoy my builds most
DennisTheBear
Nice build so far. For those of us unfamiliar with the kit though, could you maybe tell us what scale it is in.
Mmarchal
Sorry Dennis, it's the 1/32 Sopwith Snipe Late from Wingnut Wings, a local brand. They do 1/32 WWI kits only, but if that's what you like, then you can't go wrong with WNW. I used to build WWII until I tried a WNW kit. I've got five now.... DennisTheBear
Cool! I know about the company, but not their products. But you are doing a very impressive build!
Sergey
Mmarchal, Look closely at the center section, there is a thin beam.
Mmarchal
Thanks Sergey. Think that's the bracket for the Aldis sight. I haven't mounted that one. Lovely photo you have got there.
