:hmmm: You do have to feel for sorry for the old colonies, the really didn't know what they were getting themselves into. Fancy throwing all that tea in the harbour.

Not seemed to have affected your artistry/skill at modelling

Nice one Rich

Good one with the lunch comments guys...

Hi All,

So I'm cruising along waiting for the molds of the back hubs to cure, and needed to work on something else for a bit.  I decided to work on the fifth wheel.  This was a mini build that I hadn't considered the number of parts for this.

The top side looks simple enough...

The under side and the mounts took all week to build.  Mostly because finding photos up under there is just not happenin', and trying to interpret the paper instructions took a bit of studying.

The build...

Big Betty is starting to take up some space...

IMG_2269_zpsxkahfwpm.jpg

After I had been working on this a bit, I began to sense that there are a ridiculous amount of parts to build this thing.

I borrowed this one from hendie and his Pullman build...Thanks Hendie

Test mounted to the frame...

I'm going to leave it at that for now.  I want to get back to the wheels and brakes...

Be Back Later

Thanks everyone for tagging along with this slow build.

Hey All,

A quick report for today.  I got Betty up on her knees, and boy what a big butt.

Wrapping wire around a bolt to make springs is a genius idea! I need 32 springs for a 1/35 tank I'm planing and was going to buy specialist ones that would have cost just as much as the kit, with that bolt method tho I can do it for free :D

I have to say I'm in awe of this build, it's one of the most detailed scratch build models I've ever seen (I have yet to check out your crawler tho). Cant wait to see how it looks finished with the rusty body on top.

Thanks Mig Eater,  Glad you like the build, ' hope you tag along.  You'll find a bunch of useful info to "borrow" here, just cruise around.  I borrowed the screw and wire myself, along with many other things.

Thanks

When are you doing the Saturn V to go on that crawler? ;o )

Lovely work. I struggle to get tyres  to look "Rubbery". The transition from bare plastic is always incredible.

John W,                 The Saturn V rocket along with the MLP (multi launch platform) and the LUT (launch umbilical tower) are in kit form.  The designer is not quite finished with the model kit. However the kit is supposed to be finished by the fiftieth anniversary of Apollo 11.  I'm not so sure I could build the tower at 1/72 scale, it would be 7 or 8 feet tall.

It was at this point in taking photos that I couldn't believe how things worked out by accedent.  I had painted this big truck all black....

Time for a sing-a-long...

I now get to work on outside the frame components for a while.

nice work Rich.  You must have a marvelous feeling of achievement just now by getting her up on wheels.   That does not look like a "home made" job at all - great modeling skills

You Guys are great with the comments.  Thanks.

Just thought I would post as I go along for a bit.  I built the stow box at the rear of the frame this weekend.  The rear of the frame is filling up fast.

Be back when I build something else.

Later, Rich

I edited this post:...Now that I look at these photos, I will redo the color a bit on the stow box and tone it down.  This is a bit much color for the top side.  I'll work on that.

So if this thing is about fifteen inches long,

By the time you fit a trailer it will have to

be put out in the yard on display!

Found another song for you BTW.

Thanks for having fun with the music everyone.

Hey Pete,  I'm guessing that if I built the trailer, it all would be about 5 feet long.  Of course then I would have to build a load of some sort.  Maybe the Russian Bat-M.

That's one helluva piece of kit. Brilliant work. On the music side, I'm surprised that nobody has uploaded the obvious.......Stones; Paint it Black!!

Hey All,

I just thought I would show what I'm about to start, but I don't have a clue how I'm going to do this.

Steering components...

Рулевые тяги и поворотные рычаги МАЗ-537

I have a ton of photos of the steering stuff.  I just have to imagine whats under the grease.

Be back soon,

Rich
