paul_c
Hi guys, This may be in the wrong section as it is half mil, half civvy but here goes...... I have Revell's 1/35 Land Rover sitting in the stash and I am looking at building it as a civvy fire tender/fire brigade support wagon for a friend of mine. The biggest problem I'll be looking at is the fact that the fire brigade Landys were all hard tops. Does anyone produce an aftermarket conversion or would I have to scratch build (a first for me!)? Failing that, could the kit's canvas top be modified?

dcrfan
Azimuth make a LAND ROVER SERIES II 88 HARD TOP. This is SWB cab only. See http://www.azimutproductions.comunder Armour - Azimuth Limited Edition. I have one but it arrived rather bent although it's so thin it was easy to realign with hot water. See also this thread http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/47748-135-land-rover/?hl=%2Brhodesian+%2Brailways+%2Bland I've built the same version of Rhodesian Land Rover. Very easy conversion. Edited February 25, 2016 by dcrfan
paul_c
Thanks dcrfan, I may have been vague in my OP but I did mean a hard top rear instead of the canvas tilt it currently has. This is the type of truck I'm looking to recreate........ Edited February 26, 2016 by paul_c

Centaur95
Have a chat with the guys at Accurate Armour (www.accurate-armour.com ). They produce several Series III Landrovers and are happy to supply components from them individually. If you need the hardtop parts, they should be happy to sell them to you. Cheers, Centaur

Dr_Flangemeister
bit pricey innit ? Maybe... That said, the set does seem to include this detailing set: https://www.djparkins.com/product.php?productid=18097&cat=298&page=1 Might be worth contacting Mr Parker directly to see if the hard top could be purchased separately unless you want the extra detail set? "You pays your money and takes your choice." I have to say, if I could justify the cost, I would get that. Looks to be quite a comprehensive conversion set. I will contact both him and AA first though to see if I can get the hard top separately. Thanks for the help guys.
Okdoky
Have you thought of making a timber mold and using heat to form your own as a press mold? Either that or use plasticard to build it up and sand to shape? Nige
Kingsman
I made a number of hard-top conversions way back in the mists of time when the S3 kit was new. I used plasticard for the sides, rear and rear door. The roof I made by adding filler to the soft top and sanding smooth. Microstrip for the seam/gutter. Alpine windows were a pain in that thick plastic: drill, cut, file, managed to glaze them with Microscale Kristal Kleer. Tropical roof from microstrip and more plasticard. Sadly I only have 35mm slides of the models (long way pre-digital!) and no digitiser.
