MY HENG LONG TIGER 1

Recommended Posts

I have a Tiger 1 and my son has the Sherman, I decided to strip mine and mess around doing the paint scheme, a more in the field look. Got the Tracks off and painting, although tempted to replace with metal. Got the hull accessories to finish painting before putting back on. May remove the decals too and redo.

So, here she is...Snow Tiger.

Gorgeous looking Tiger,i'd love one of those large scale monsters one day :goodjob: ....

Ta Vince, this one is the rc version, nowhere near as detailed as a 1/16 kit but for £50...more fun.

Nice rust effects :goodjob:

BillyD

Cheers Billy, I actually messed up the pics, the first set show an intermediate stage-I of course failed to mention this-numpty that I am.

That would be the one i'd have but it just be a static model then knowing me it'd lead to a Royal Tiger then a King Tiger then a Panther!....

I would like to get the smoking and sound version of the Tiger 1 and swap my hull over, but at the moment just cannot afford it.

Any chance you could post a shot of your sons Sherman with the Tiger?....It's a shame you don't live in Scotland the snow would be perfect for photo's....

Yeah will get some piccies when the weather is better, his Sherman has just got a some very light wear compared to mine...he doesn't want me to faff with his.

If you put metal tracks on, the speed of your Tiger will become very slow and put more strain on the gears and gearbox of your Heng Long tank

Richard

I may upgrade to metal tracks and metal gearbox and then swap the hulls over...just that funds are low :weep:

Fantastic shot, can just imagine a GI with a stickybomb....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Me poor Tiger!

I would love a Torro/ Mato or even a Taigen RC version, but they are just too much for me at the moment. What I really want is a 1/6 scale but at pushing £3k + it ain't going to happen lol.

Look at it this way it's cheaper than a 1:1 scale and easier to display lol....

Those are the original HL tracks right?

Ok,you can do one of two things:

1/ Replace 'em with Tamiya Tiger tracks.

They fit on your HL sprockets, don't maul the gearboxes and look better.

or

2/Take off the HL tracks again and respray them with Alclad Steel(do this with the Tam.tracks too)because, wartime German tracks

never ever rust.

The composition of the metal has a high zinc content and are very hardened to resist wear.

The main thing with HL tanks(especially the Tiger 1)is that you have to think like you're driving the real thing.

A 50+ tonner wouldn't whizz around on the spot and do tight pivot turns without throwing a track.

If you throw a HL track without track tensioners fitted, you risk snapping the rear idler wheel right off.

Mine still runs it's original HL nylon gearboxes but they've been converted to be geared down to a 3:1 ratio and Tamiya tracks.

This makes the tank much easier to drive realistically plus it'll climb obstacles more easily.

It also has a modified HL transmitter, again this makes it easier to drive properly.

Yes they are the original tracks, thanks for the info regarding them.

One issue with mine is hasn't got a proportional transmitter so it is all or nothing, this makes it so unrealistic, fast forward and reverse or stop. Makes it handy when laddo is shooting at me with his Sherman, but that is about all.

Interesting info regarding the gearing, appreciate it, thank you.

Have to say those outdoor shots really bring it to life, great work.

Thank you, it is in bits at the moment, added some bits and still working on it.

Looks very realistic! Great Tiger!

Very nice to say, thank you very much.
