1/32 WnW Albatross D.Va Karl Hopf Jasta 76b

Recommended Posts

Finally finished this one after losing my modeling mojo and leaving it languishing on the "shelf of doom" for a while. As many have said, fantastic kit, very well engineered and fun to build. Paints are from Misterkit for camouflage and Tamiya for basic colors. Decals from WnW aftermarket sheet "The Bavarians", and transparent wood decals from HGW designed for this kit with a coat of light tan underneath. Rigging from Uschi.

Not perfect by any means, but I don't build for contests. Forgot a couple of things but didn't realize until too late in the game. It's a good "three footer"! Sorry the pictures are a little dark, couldn't seem to find the proper lighting.

Cheers,

Geoff

A three-footer? I'd love to see what you can do when you're really trying then Geoff! Is that an aftermarket propellor? If not, any chance you could share your technique?

I've always been amused at what the Germans must have been thinking with regards to camouflage. "Hans, paint ze vings in a disruptif pattern und zen zey vill never see us!!"

Top class modelling, painting and decaling.

Thanks everyone for the kind words! But I must say pictures hide many things! No photo shop, I promise!

As for the propeller, I have to admit I am not completely happy with the result. It is the kit prop, started with a light tan base coat, thin strips of Tamiya tape to simulate the layers, and a coat of darker brown/raw umber over top. Can't recall exact color! Two or three gloss clear coats, logo decals, and then a coat of semi gloss clear to tone it down just a little. I tried a couple of other techniques but just couldn't come up with one that I really liked, so I settled with this one. At least it doesn't detract from the rest of the model, so I guess I'll go with it.

Thanks again!
