jaitea
Hi guys I've been a member for a while but this is my first post here,....My name is John & I'm from Carrickfergus (10 miles from Belfast) You might get to notice that I tend to build 1 craft......in different scales.....different versions...... ....the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars There were a few Studio models made for the films,....but the main two were the 5 foot model & the smaller 32" one, heres a quick guide on how to spot differences between the different models OK......The Differences of the 5 footer Star Wars version (or A New Hope) to the same model modified for Empire Strikes Back.....the additional Landing gear boxes: ...and a broken Quad gun after ESB: Now for the differences of the 5 footer & the 32" Front on.....differences in the Mandible ends: Next the boxes on the mandibles / hull The Cockpit: The Starboard Mandible: The Dish: The Quad Turret; .....and the back end, the spacing of the vertical Fuel drive pressure stabiliser things: Thats it for tonight,.....there are obviously TONNES of differences,......But at a glance, you should be able to pick out which version you are looking at from any angle Hope this is a help John Edited February 10, 2016 by jaitea
Dermo245
Welcome John and have long admired (aka Bookmarked) your work over on RPF! While I mostly build winged and rotor things myself, I'm on a bit of a Star Wars vibe at present and recently got a Revell 1/72 Falcon (to go along with a 1/144 Fine Molds and half built AMT kit in the attic). I think I'm trying to convince myself I can make something good out of the Revell one. Look forward to seeing more pics! Cheers, Dermot in Dublin

John_W
Interesting comparison. Will cause masses of debate over which version is "definitive". I remember an article by Matt Irvine in Scale Models many years ago talking about the accuracy of models of models and talking about how the different sized versions of the Blakes 7 Liberator were different in dimensions and details. The 5 footer has been described as 'The Bible' by The VFX guy from TFA Dave Fogler,.....they used the 5 footer as the base for the digital Falcon The 32" Falcon is retired J

Sgt.Squarehead
The item marked 'Shape' in the left picture from the fourth pair is a Panther Ausf G mantlet with chin (probably Tamiya 1/35).
BobSolo
Cool, thanks for taking the time to explain the differences! Imo the 5 ft and TFA new sq dish are so cool, theyre so pure and make me tingle with excitement just looking at them, awesome design! I hope Bandai make a huge TFA one, i can imagine it pulling serious G's at 45 degrees ( i should have that in my sig lol ) fully lit tearing through a Star Wars collection screaming AWESOME! jaitea
A very nice website that has been mentioned on FaceBook today about the history of the Millennium Falcon concept: http://kitbashed.com/blog/a-complete...lennium-falconThe interesting thing is how much effort & design that went into making the 'Pirate Ship' only to have the ship shelved all because of Space 1999's Eagle Transporter......so they redesigned the shape into the 'Burger' shape we know now,.... Why did they call it 'The Millennium Falcon'??Because of that Space 1999 Eagle
