Some shots from my recent build (no scratch building, just the kit as was).. The kit was dated 1973, a number if components off the sprues and decal paper yellowed.

Model was primed with Halfords can then Revell acrylics used with airbrush. Around 5 coats of gloss varnish applied before finally fixing the basic decal set. Invasion stripes (not shown here) masked and airbrushed. Two more coats of gloss, some weathering then 3 coats of matt.

Mal.

This makes me wonder if the rivets are protruding out from the hull, instead of being flush (looks like it, guessing it is realistic). The reason I began thinking about this, is the problem of how to apply a wash to something that has a rounded nail head, instead of the typical modern recessed "pits". :)

I covered the model with Ultimate Weathering Wash Dark Dirt. Once I removed the excess the wash seems to have remained around the rivet heads but only around some of the raised panel lines, worked OK though.
