If the hands are not bigger than his face they should be about to scale, its hard to tell from the picture.

Thats a damn good shout Andy i forgot about the face test, I'll do that when im back at the bench

The whole sculpt looks fantastic.

As for the hands, maybe slightly large but as they'll be in gloves (I assume) they're probably spot on. Really enjoying seeing your progress.

Cheers BrotherMole! Yeah chunky gloves but i think what may help is if i trim some material off the back of the hand or something.

Hmm thanks for the opinions guys, I'll do the face test and see if i can get away with using them as gloved hands. Back soon with some torso detailing.

Those hands look spot on. Maybe if you thin the white plate out, on the back, or contour the edges to blend into the rest, it might help remove some of the "chunkiness" of them.

Cheets Matt, yeah thats definitely what I'll do.

I held the hand to his face and with the base of the palm on his chin the fingers reach his hairline so its okay, especially as they're gloved.

As for the side details i started sorting them out. I want some cabling running from his flanks to under the torso wedge, so i wanted a chunky side detail as the base for an attachment point.

So rolled out my sculpey.

And cut a rectangle to be halved for each side.

I nipped of a corner for more visual interest, and loosely pressed it in to see how it looks.

Then it was just a matter of blending the edges to get it stuck on properly. Thats also why i stab into with my tools to help ensure its on as good as it can be.

And then after smoothing over this is how it looks.

So next up I'll whack one on the other side then add some guitar string.

Thanks for looking, more soon :)

The side detail is looking good and as for the hand they look about the right size but they look to much like gundam hand as they are, I amuse you will be modding them in some way, like filling in the joints?

The over all look is coming along very nicely.

Cheers Brian! And yeah the hand itself is literally just basically an armature, I'll be cutting down the top adding different armor and filling all joints to give a material look.

The hand size and shape look good to me, glad they pass the test.

Presumably you'll be building them up with epoxy so they don't need baking?

Thanks Will! Yes thats right, hands will be greenstuff / milliput sculpted around what they're holding and will be done after baking.

Okay so i cut some more guitar string, cut a little slot for them and shoved them in carefully.

Once they were in i cut a little piece to put over the ends to neaten it up, and i smoothed over the chunky bit where it had bulged out a bit.

Pleased with that, now to copy it to the other side.

As usual one job leads to another, i measured up where to put the chunky flank detail on the other side and noticed he's got a few dips under his arm and down tbe side of his back

So i rolled out some chunks of sculpey and smoothed them over.

And i also tightened the bolt into his back a bit too to firm it up. And with that job done next i can start copying over the details.

Thanks for looking, more soon :)

Hahaha! Thanks Mike that made my day!

:yes::lol:

Well I've managed to finish getting the detail onto the other side, with a lot of smushing and blending. The position of his right hand makes it slightly more awkward but it was okay.

There's still torso and helmet attachment/neck detail but it feels so close to the end of him now! Really cant wait to get on with the alien, its going to feel so free and liberating to sculpt an organic subject rather than hard smooth armor!

Thanks for looking, more soon :)

Just a random thought, the Gundam hands,

Why can't one of his hands be artificial?

That would add another part to the diorama?

Hmmm, food for thought, I like the idea of maybe a hydraulic claw hand something similar to a deep sea dive suit. Seems likely that would be useful for space exploration.

Guitar strings, a million and one uses! I've also heard they can be used for music too!!

Stunning work, as usual, Hunter.

Can't wait to see your work on the alien.

Matt

Guitar strings for music?? Next you'll be telling me hairspray is actually for hair!

Thanks Matt! :)

Whoa sorry been a little neglectful of this build, just been CRAZY busy with work!

Finally got a small bit of sculpt time, im just having a go at bulking up his shoulders.  Didn't want to go the whole hog and make full on shoulder pads but shaped and built them up a bit instead.

Still got to sort the other one, and then im going to chunk up the bit at the back of his head and create a flat area on his back for the backpack to eventually go on.

Thanks for looking, more soon :)
