The Chief Smeg
Quick question, why did you change the seam line on the upper leg to the top from the lower leg where it is on the side? is the answer "Poetic licence" or are you going to mirror this on the arms?
Hunter Rose
Honestly it just felt right to me, the top of the thigh was a big blank area and I didn't think any cut away detailing either floating on its own or coming from the top would look right. So I decided to do a panel line to break up such a wide blank area and do a large cut away detail on the side of the leg; planning on doing a double depth detail with a step which will be in the next update so you can see what I mean.
Hunter Rose
Been screwing around with the thigh detail i mentioned, marked it our and scooped it out like before. 20170302_131222 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170302_131355 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170302_132407 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170302_132900 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170302_133645 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170302_133649 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170302_133810 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170302_134719 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170302_135210 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170302_135231 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Im not sure if i like the step, i think maybe it would look "cleaner" if it was just a solid cut out; and maybe if i mirror it on the arms it will tie it in more. Hmm, not sure, I'll sleep on it and as always opinions are very welcome! Thanks for looking, more soon
The Chief Smeg
I think it depends on what you decide the steps are for - if you put a detail in that makes it look like the connect with other equipment then they will look great, on the arms they could hold display screens and controls etc...
rockpopandchips
First thing that came to mind was electromagnetic holster for equipment box / gun / knife. Doing the same on the arm for a med box would bring it together, either way I like it! Any more thought son the monster yet?

The Chief Smeg
Now that idea I like a lot! and it answers my question about the seam switch - you wouldn't want a seam running through a gun mount or control screen etc. I so looking forward to the next update! Thank you both for your suggestions That is a great idea! I really like the thought of the bottom of it being a magnetic plate to hold things. Now im thinking knife on the right (because every adventurer needs a knife!!) being held in place and like you said a med kit and some smaller boxes on the left. I have done a little more today and i am really liking the thigh detail, i think whay bugged me was the step isnt wide enough given the chunky nature of the rest of the armor detail so I've begun thickening it. 20170303_131949 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170303_134042 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170303_134609 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170303_134708 by Nick Frost, on Flickr I was thinking i could get some custom decals done, maybe a caution or warning sign about the electro magnet or something so it clear thats what it is. Next up I'll finish neatening this up and thickening the step and then it time to copy onto the other leg! Thanks for looking, more soon
The Chief Smeg
You have done it AGAIN! Another little change and suddenly it just looks so much better - it really did need a thicker edge to the step, makes all the difference. I suppose it is easier to see this in real life.
Will Vale
This is highly educational, I'm interested in doing some hard surface sculpting (I want a Watcher from Horizon...) so will keep on paying attention. Love all the details and cutouts. Will

Love all the details and cutouts. Will Cheers Will, oh man yeah some of those Horizon designs are amazing! Just a quick update to show the finished thigh detail now I've smoothed and neatened it a bit. Every time i smooth near the edges it warps the line so i have to re cut and smooth it out, i also built up some of the top layer near the corners to increase and even out the definition. 20170306_131917 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170306_131927 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170306_134035 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170306_134110 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170306_134607 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170306_134627 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And now thats sorted to a point im happy with its time to copy it on the other one, oh joy! Hunter Rose
Okay so I've copied the detail to the other thigh, only slightly different thing i did was to use my ball stylus to rough up the surface prior to smoothing, this helps even out the bumps. 20170307_132032 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170307_134156 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170307_134437 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170308_131112 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170308_132502 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170308_133218 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170308_133748 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170308_133930 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170308_134154 by Nick Frost, on Flickr I have smoothed the inner surface but in my infinite wisdom forgot to take a pic! Also I've ordered a small tripod for my phone for the princely sum of 2 pounds of the realm, I'm going to have a go at filming. I think sometimes i miss steps or am not clear on exactly what I've done so i thought it might be be cool to just show a vid of my process. I'll sort that out when it arrives. John_W
I was looking at this and thinking how incredible the workmanship is, and then it occurred to me that it is still only half finished and unpainted.
Hunter Rose
Thank you for the kind words John! Just a quick one, heres a pic of the smoothed thigh detail i forgot. 20170309_133351 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And i wanted to jazz up the knee pads a bit. 20170309_133000 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170309_133903 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Also i took a pic showing how all the leg detail looks together. 20170309_133919 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Very happy, i think I'll add a small cutaway detail under each knee pad (and even them up about) and I'll leave it at that and move on to the crotch and belt. Hunter Rose
That's a good shout, lets do it! Started by rolling some sculpey and cutting a bit. 20170315_131905 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then i roughed up the contact surface, i only do this to make some small rough bits that will squash in when i press ot on for better contact. 20170315_131922 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then i roll some thin sausages to press into the edges to blend it in and help stick it on. 20170315_132707 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170315_133935 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then carved in an edge. 20170315_134118 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Its still rough, with this being a buckle detail I'll carve out the middle so the edge is raised and put in a shallower cross piece, for no other reason than i think it will look cool Thanks for looking, more soon

BrotherMole
Super stuff. Do you mind me asking do you have a fine art background, or do this for a living? This is next order stuff and I'm intrigued about where you learned your art. Keep it up - I always enjoy your updates.
