Hunter Rose
Cheers Matt, appreciate it Did a little more on the right foot today, and through a long series of tweaks its getting there! Started by chopping it down to the same size as the other and then replicating tbe heel and toe trim. 20170210_131151 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170210_131515 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170210_132149 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170210_134728 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170210_134742 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And just for the hell of it did a full body shot to show his over all look now the feet are nearing the final phase! 20170210_134917 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Next up I'll get the cut away detail done then i think I'll fi d it easier to see how it really compares, though I'm happy its a close enough match so far. Thanks for looking, more soon
S5 modeller
That overall shot looks good, turning into a stunning sculpt. I bet he's a bit in the heavy side now. Will you be baking him soon?
Hunter Rose
Yeah just going by how much clay I've used hes a little shy of 2.5 pounds, so will definitely be reinforcing his wire supports! No baking yet, still need to add similar cut away detail as the foot to his armor, rework the chest for a more squared off shape rather than rounded and also create a wide collar to accommodate for the new helmet design (phew!)
Hunter Rose
Right got the cut away detail on the other foot sorted. I measured some of the gaps and distances on the left foot and marked it all out, and then removed and smoothed the area as before. 20170213_134130 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170213_134336 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170213_134849 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170213_135150 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170214_131915 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170214_133815 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170214_133828 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170214_133839 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Pretty happy with how they compare, i must admit i do check my symmetry to get it as best i can, but i don't go mad with the calipers checking every little measurement; Its my first sculpt and i dont want it to become an exercise in frustration which will put me off or make me not finish. So next up I'll reshape the chest area, looking forward to doing that! Thanks for looking, more soon
Hunter Rose
Right, started shaping his chest today. I want to remove the rounded look and make it more angular and wedge like. So I cut away the round shape so i could just wack a more square edged bit straight on and immediately start shaping it quite drastically. 20170215_130642 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_130949 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_131048 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_131801 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_132233 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_132405 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_132441 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_132548 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_132729 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_133012 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_133147 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_133257 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_133422 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_133743 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_134038 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_134509 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_134708 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_134833 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_135138 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_135147 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170215_135157 by Nick Frost, on Flickr So its getting there, its still rough, need to sort the shape, even the angles on either side and smooth out more of the curved surfaces. But overall im liking where te new shapes going, the rounded shape it started as just felt a bit dull and just there because i couldn't think of anything better (which it was!) So next up its more shaping and building it up. Thanks for looking, more soon
rockpopandchips
I like what you doing with the look of the chest plate, a much more modern scifi look to it.

Hunter Rose
Had another productive sculpt session today, I've been shaping the new shape chest armor and building it up. 20170220_131113 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170220_131501 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170220_131715 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170220_131921 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170220_132054 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170220_132545 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170220_133455 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170220_133504 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170220_133517 by Nick Frost, on Flickr So thats where its at, still want to flatten out the shoulders a bit more to square them off and also I'll have to begin roughing out the helmet collar. Hunter Rose
Got some more sculpt time today on my lunch break, so I've begun te groundwork for his helmet collar. Started by marking out the helmet edge, then cut a deep incision and began removing excess sculpey. 20170221_131012 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170221_131724 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170221_132038 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170221_132456 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then i just tried it on to check the size was good. 20170221_132605 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170221_132617 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then although i had the soft padded look, now its a bigger hole I'll do something a bit more interesting than just simply making a huge area of padding, so I've roughed it up with a ball stylus then smoothed it over. 20170221_133440 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170221_135121 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Next up I'll build up the collar shape and add some detail to the enlarged neck hole. rockpopandchips
Really nice progress again, what about a seam line on the tight parts? Maybe i look at to many mecha suits but they just look like they should be in 2 parts.
Hunter Rose
Chees dude! Yeah when i start adding the cutaway detail i plan on adding a lot of panel lines here and there. Just a quickie, made a start on some inner shoulder covers/armor/straps (?) And the back part of the helmet collar. 20170222_133400 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170222_135052 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Eventually before i bake it I'll push some holes through the back for my lighting; theres going to be an led neon tube flexed around the inner edge of the helmet, uplighting the face. Next I'll keep working on the collar and inner neck area detail. Thanks for looking, more soon
Hunter Rose
Right update time! I've moved away from the torso for now, I'm thinking i want to start nailing down some final details working up from the bottom as the feet are pretty much sorted. Started by making a start on some knee guard and simultaneously neaten up the top of the lower leg armor. So i rolled out some sculpey and cut a shape for a start point. 20170223_132641 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170223_133729 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Which was then squished and blended in. 20170223_133734 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170223_134108 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then i did the same for the other side (i cut two shapes using the first as a template before i added it) 20170223_134258 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170223_134859 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then i played around with some detailing, and chunked up the knee guard. 20170224_132911 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170224_133450 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170224_134016 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170224_134213 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170224_134909 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170224_134917 by Nick Frost, on Flickr The beauty of sculpting is if im not happy i can erase it all easily, but im happy with this. Obviously I'll probably add more as i go. Next up I'll match up the other side and continue to play around with some ideas and see how it comes out! Okay so I've got the details copied onto the other leg (i hate copying details, damn symmetry!) 20170227_131925 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170227_132028 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170227_133159 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170227_133710 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170227_134151 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And then i decided to create a bit of interest on the seam lines on the side of the legs 20170228_131136 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170228_131254 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170228_131638 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170228_132106 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170228_132602 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170228_132750 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170228_133341 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Its only a small thing to add but i really like it. Next i decided to square up the thigh bit where it meets the knee joint and add another panel line and cut out detail. So i rolled a bit of clay which i smooshed on and used the tools to square it off more. 20170228_133910 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170228_134136 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170228_134329 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Then grabbed one of my sharp tools and began on the detail. 20170228_134617 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170228_134750 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170228_134950 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Really happy with this session, next up I'll copy the thigh detail to the other leg and try out some more detailing ideas. The Chief Smeg
Hmm I thought you were going to leave the 'tongue' section on the sides of the legs full. This is odd because every time you explain the change you are going to make I thin "no it looks fine just as it is" and then you show us the work and I think "oh, that does look a lot better". This is is just getting better and better. Those new sections on the top of the upper leg armour makes an amazing difference. Im just loving this.
Hunter Rose
Cheers dude! Yeah im pretty crap at making or sticking to plans on projects so most details are last minute on the fly additions! Appreciate the interest
Hunter Rose
Quick update! Noticed the thigh had a bit of a low spot when i checked the profile that needs building up. So i smooshed a lump of sculpey into it and raked it a little before amoothing over and redoing the panel line. 20170301_131513 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170301_131842 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170301_132241 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170301_132443 by Nick Frost, on Flickr And then i just copied the detail onto the other thigh after neatening the armor edge as on the other. 20170301_133005 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170301_133346 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170301_134040 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170301_134312 by Nick Frost, on Flickr 20170301_135329 by Nick Frost, on Flickr Right, symmetry reigns once more! Next up I'll continue detailing, might do something with the crotch and belt. Also i like the little lower leg detail on the panel line so much i may copy it on the inner leg of each too.
