Christer A
Thanks Val! Today I haven't done that much, but a new clearcoat to protect the decals against further weathering. Also, I finished the exhausts:

Christer A
Thanks Rob. About the tape-masks. I actually watched Alexander Glass do that on his own decals during a demonstration for his products at a competition in Malmö (C4) a few months back, and I thought that I could as well try it. After all, I am planning to do three more VIII:s so it´s not a huge problem if I bodge this one. It works very well actually, so I might still be able to winterize a Harrier GR.3 that got put on the shelf of doom since I ripped apart a few decals when trying to mask it.
Christer A
Weathering time!  The topside has recieved some exhaust streaks with Tamiya XF-57 Buff, further soot from the Tamiya make-up sets and a smattering of dust from MIG. Quite happy with the effect so far, but I should probably add some strategic chipping  The bottom has so far recived a lot of straking grime from MIG but I'm not really happy yet. Something is missing...  Comments please.

Christer A
Thanks Val. At the local club night yesterday I got some good feedback on what to improve, so today I did just that. That will do in the weathering department... Time to finish all the little details here and there that are still left! Â
Christer A
What should I do? Finish the Spitfire VIII. What do I do? Masking the Spitire XII. When will I ever finish my three active kits? Well.... Â Nevermind, let's do some pre-shade! Not forgetting to add some crazy-shade as well. At least the Tamiya XF-83 Dark green is pretty standard stuff. Let's get rid of all that tape and behold: Â Â Just a few small touchups here and there, then we can do some ID-bands! And a clear coat. And decals. And a Eduard Spit VIII... Â With this kind of progress, I might be able to crack open a new kit in March, which coincidences with a group build. Timing is everything Edited January 30, 2017 by Christer A Seplling! ;-)
Christer A
Progress on the XII was delayed due to trip to the mountains and some skiing One need to teach the kids (boy aged 7 to the left, girl 11 y.o to the right) how to ski, even if one looks like a dork myself since i'm more or less self taught in these matters. Good times where had, and there was also sufficient amounts of snow. Now we've seen the white stuff, so roll on spring! It's just brown and grey everewhere I see here in Varberg.  Oh well.  The latest and greatest in Spitfire-land is some painted stripes  This white-balance stuff is HARD! I was a little bit worried that the colors for Dark Green/Ocean grey were off somehow, since they look very muted in pictures, and also in some lights. Well, a comparison with a harrier which were painted in Gunze Dark green , Dark Sea grey were arranged.  The Dark greens are atleast close...but there should be some difference between Dark Green in 1943 and Dark green in 1977 IIRC Big difference in the greys though!  I should be able to slap some decals on soonish...
Christer A
Sticker time! It took some effort to get these off the backing paper for some reason. In Aussieland we're onto final assembly, and just need to paint the bombs and install the last few parts. It fees like it takes ages to do so, but maybe I subconsciously doesn't want to finish it? Probably slipping deeper into lunacy by each completed kit...
Christer A
Finally! Aussie Eight #1 is FINISHED! It helps to stay at home with sick kids instead of going to work, or even working from home. Yeah I've got the preliminary stages of man-cold too. Â I need to take a few better pictures tomorrow, if the sun shows up again, and then it's ready for RFI! About bloody time too... TonyTiger66
Very nice Mk. VIII there  Superb looking Foliage Green and the open cockpit really does work, and look,  a treat.    TonyT
Shalako
I like the addition of black streaks to the bottom. It makes the weathering look more realistic.  Keep up the good work!  Cheer Shalako

Christer A
During the last few week, Aussie Eight #2 has been taking shape. This time, it will be the indian example Ace of spades, Blue roundels and that lovely desert paint-job that looks so good. This one will have the cockpit closed, so without further ado this is how that turned out It sure dues help to go to a Plastic summer camp with a few likeminded and just build for 48 hours more or less straight, because now it looks like this Time to order those resin engine covers, by the dozen!

CJP
I like the weathering on the belly of the Spitfire - easy to overdo but yours looks good CJP
Biggles87
Good choice for the second scheme. I intend to use it on one of mine when I get around to them, I like the combination of desert camouflage and pointed wing tips. I have a couple of the resin engine covers and I think they are worth it for the time saved sanding and filling the seams.  John
Christer A
Thanks CPJ and John! I'm still waiting for those resin engine covers, but they'll get here eventually. In the meantime I decided to tackle the underside. I started with some Ultimate black primer Then a thought started to buzz around in my head. I should try to do this fancy "marble" preshade. It looks very nice when done right and I figured how hard can it be? Well... Pretty hard it seems! Ok, so I'll cover this with a coat of black and try again. This time NOT using Xtracrylix Azure blue to preshade with. The paint build-up on the needle tip is quite fast and makes the precision work needed very hard to do! Also, it needs to be A LOT tighter and smaller dots. Time to break out some trusted Tamiya pots! Â Unless I get distracted by pointy things...

I blame it on the too good economy which allows me to buy weathering books...  TonyT: Thanks for the cheers. Yeah, it kind of falls together, but you have to be careful anyway since some small mistakes will lead to misalignment later on. The left wing root in my case is no looker, that's for sure. Probably need some heavy sanding to sort out but that will obliterate all those fine details... Oh well, I have 2 more VII:s in the box anyway (so far I've bought one extra. I need at least one more) For the green, I've just bought Gunze 302 which is what the instructions recommend. I have a picture on the rudder painted with that , but not on this computer. Stay tuned!  You do know that Eduard will do the VIII in 1/72 right? And an Aussie Eight edition as well? I Agree with Tony, Life color RAAF paints, I used it on mine and look right ! Congrats for that great job. Sincerely. Corsaircorp
